They’re ba-ac-ck!! Adelaide music-meisters ASD have under their belt a brand new album “Tranks, Lobo’s & Zipheads”. Obviously some sort of Adelaide-suburbisms, I will declare my ignorance in the opening page as to just what the hell that means, but state also that this is the only failing of the record.
With a guest-musician list like the who’s who of Adelaide indie artists, ASD have compiled fourteen tracks as diverse as the promo single of last year Pills / The Letter promised. I took my time warming to the single, but this record needs no warming-to as far as this hardened critic is concerned, but there is a diversity here that includes rock, punk, blues-jams, quasi-ballads and reggae. Influences and friends are also wide-reaching, with a guest-list of seven people from 9 bands including The Flugelmen, Crisp, Blue Experience and Pornland and a brag-sheet that now extends to 21 local and international acts that includes Regurgitator, Powderfinger, Sprung Monkey and diana Ah naid.
“Tranks, Lobo’s & Zipheads” is probably the best thing apart from a compilation record to gage what is coming out of and going down around South Australia’s capital. Stand-out tracks include the singles (now giving credit to Adam Page from Funkamatic 300 and Space Junk for the flautism), You Don’t Know (with Ria from Suite and Space Junk on vocals) and the instrumental pieces. It ain’t exactly lo-fi but it retains the spirit of the recording that would otherwise have been lost in over-polishing. ask them what it means!
