Review - The Fifth Sun "No Frills"
independant CD EP

"No Frills" is what you get with The Fifth Sun’s second EP of the same name, at least as far as the packaging of the disc is concerned. Black & white artwork, a track listing and contact details - No Frills CDs... a far cry from the packaging of their 1996 effort but equally as effective.

Musically, "No Frills" is 6 tracks in another direction entirely from Cyclops: there’s a heavier harder edge to the music with punk, hard-core, metal, groove and funk expressed individually and in combinations in the last five tracks. The opener For The Sun contains Policesque guitar and bass effects with some chunk and eastern influences for flavouring. The rest of the record goes all out to display what the band have become since "Cyclops" and it is definitely not the same band!

From a heavy-pop outfit to one following the harder edge of today’s trends, The Fifth Sun are a band who are constantly evolving to meet the musical challenge of the day. Much better than stagnation!
