Sounds from the Street was presented and produced by PG (Jacky)
Gleeson in Sydney from February 1994 to January 1997, as well on
Australia's Community Radio Satellite service briefly in 1996. The
self-cancellation of that program saw the end of an active community radio
career which spanned four stations and almost twelve years, but some people
kept sending product to us, so rather than send it back or let it gather dust,
this review service came into being.
When
we update this site, we send out a newsletter to the artists, their management,
fanzines, fan and official web pages, booking agents and record
labels/distributors, anyone else who has shown an interest in this site in any
way and the site’s subscribers. So far, a number of the reviews themselves have
been used in press kits, on web sites, in promotional packages, etc, of bands
from all stages in their careers and all popular musical genres. Many of our live
reviews have been published in Sydney's The Drum Media and Revolver magazines as well.
Any recordings received for
review are passed on for addition to any of a number of radio stations in
Sydney. It would be a shame to have some of this music played only once, so get
your local public, community or college station to get in touch with us and we'll be happy to
pass it on (Artists, why not send a CD to those programs we service and point
them to your review at our site, or… heck, there’s so many options!!)
Included
in our mail-out list are a number of major radio stations in Australia, with
the view that they can't be everywhere all the time and it probably gives them
more of an idea of what's not being sent to them, or of the gigs they've been
invited to see but didn't show up at! Hopefully they will follow up on a good
review and think about adding an artist because of it!
