Painted at the request of a friend, this was one of a series of four cartoons I drew one evening, all of various gas-masked figures. I based this female character on the haunting photograph of that green and yellow-eyed Arab girl wearing the dark red and purple aba robe, the young lady whose picture on the front of a NG has enraptured millions and whose face is better known than probably any rock star's mug.

The tubes that feed the canister are painted in a very heavy impasto, almost cake-icing thick, to give the tubes a sickeningly organic look. The intention of the thick swirls and flakes is to make the texture so enticing that one cannot help but want to touch (they are the only three dimensional parts of the painting) but at the same time be repulsed by their sharp and organic qualities.
