j.krishnamurti--[ jk ]

there is no glamour in his philosophy. his passages are essence driven.

some of excerpts from his talks.....

"The question of whether or not there is a God or truth or reality, or whatever u like to call it, can never be answered by books, by priests, philosophers or saviours. Nobody and nothing can answer the question but you yourself and that is why you must know yourself. Immaturity lies only in total ignorance of self. To understand yourself is the beginning of wisdom" --jk.

"what is love? the word is so loaded and corrupted that I hardly like to use it. I love my country, I love my king, I love some book, I love that mountain, I love pleasure, I love my wife, I love God. Is love an Idea? If it is, it can be cultivated , nourished, cherished, pushed around, twisted in any way u like. When u say u love God what does it mean? It means that you love a projection of your own imagination, a projection of yourself clothed in certain forms of respectability according to what you think is noble and holy; so to say, 'I love God', is absolute nonsense. When u worship God you are worshipping yourself - and that is not love."--jk.

"......when u learn about yourself, watch yourself, watch the way you walk, how you eat, what you say, the gossip, the hate, the jealousy - if you are aware of all that in yourself, without any choice, that is part of meditation.
So meditation can take place when u are sitting in a bus or walking in the woods full of light and shadows, or listening to the singing of birds or looking at the face of your wife or child." --jk.

"The word ' meditation ' had been used both in the East and the West in a most unfortunate way. There r systems which say, 'watch the movement of ur big toe, watch it, watch it'; there r other systems which advocate sitting in a certain posture, breathing regularly or practising awareness. All this is utterly mechanical. Another method gives u a certain word and tells u that if u go on repeating it u will have some extraordinary transcendental experience. This is sheer nonsense. It is a form of self-hypnosis. By repeating Amen or Om or Coca-Cola indefinitely u will obviously have a certain experience because by repetition mind becomes quiet. By repetition u can induce the mind to be gentle and soft but it is still a petty, shoddy, little mind. You might as well put a piece of stick u have picked up in the garden on the mantelpiece and give it a flower every day. In a month u will be worshipping it and not to put a flower in front of it will become a sin." --jk.

" I do not want followers, and I mean this. The moment you follow someone you cease to follow Truth. I am not concerned whether you pay attention to what I say or not. I want to do a certain thing in the world and I am going to do it with unwavering concentration.
I am concerning myself with only one essential thing: to set man free. I desire to free him from all cages, from all fears, and not to found religions, new sects, nor to establish new theories and new philosophies.
Then you will naturally ask me why I go the world over, continually speaking. I will tell you for what reason I do this: not because I desire a following, not because I desire a special group of special disciples.
(How men love to be different from their fellow-men, however ridiculous, absurd and trivial their distinctions may be! I do not want to encourage that absurdity.)
I have no disciples, no apostles, either on earth or in the realm of spirituality.

Nor is it the lure of money, nor the desire to live a comfortable life, which attracts me. If I wanted to lead a comfortable life I would not come to a Camp or live in a damp country! I am speaking frankly because I want this settled once and for all. I do not want these childish discussions year after year. " -- jk.
