Chapter 3: Cerulian City...First Attempt

It was sunset when Peter had reached the city limits. The view was breathtaking. The sun was setting to the west which gave off a blue aura around it. "Now that is something," he said looking at it with great intention. "This is where we find our first gym, G. I hope we can get our first badge today,"
Nido-G looked a little droopy as it began to yawn. Peter looked down to his buddy with concern. "Guess it has been a long day. I guess a trip to the Pokmon Center wouldn't hurt," he said as he decided to put Nido-G in his Pokball to conserve his strength.
The Pokmon Center was where all trainers go to give their Pokmon a rest. They also take care of any wounds that may have taken place in a battle. They are good at what they do and care as deeply for Pokmon just like any other trainer.

Peter walked through the doors of the Pokmon Center with wandering eyes. It not only was a place for Pokmon to rest, but trainers could rest on the couches and seats as well. Peter made his way to the reception desk as he presented his Pokmon. "Can you give them a recharge for me?" he asked the receptionist.
"Of course," she smiled warmly. "It'll be a while, so you can wait over in the recreation area." Peter nodded as he went to sit down.
Peter pulled out a book from his backpack as he began to rest. He wanted to read up on how to train an Oddish. As he was reading, a boy from across his way began to call out to him.
"Excuse me," he said politely. Peter peeked his head from his book as he made eye contact. "Where are you from? I don't recall you around here."
"Saffron. I just got into town. Why?" he responded. The boy looked like he wanted a battle. "Just wondering. I was hoping you might want to battle," he replied.
Peter looked at the young challenger. He seemed skilled, but looked like he may have certain faults. "Tell you what..." Peter responded. "We had a long day so I don't think we can right now. But I'll be glad to take you up on your offer in the morning."
"Really? You promise?" the boy asked.
"Sure. But I do need to register for the Pokmon League too."
"You're gonna be in the Pokmon League? COOL! Are you gonna battle the Cerulean Sisters?"
Peter began to wonder what he meant. "Are they the gym leaders?" he asked.
"You bet! They're tough. I just got back from the gym and they totaly creamed me."

Peter began to ponder his strategy. "Is that so? Do you remember what kind of Pokmon they used?" he asked.
"Not too much. But they all have water type Pokmon. does that help?" he replied. Peter began to smile slyly as he knew he could have an advantage.
"Oh yes. That helps out alot. My name's Peter. What's yours?" he said extending his hand.
"I'm Brian. And I can't wait until tomorrow. I'll see you later" Brian shook his hand and took off. Peter continued to read up on training his Oddish with great interest since it would be his key to victory in the morning.

After signing up for the League, Peter was filled with determination as he exited out of the Pokmon Center. "This is gonna be a good day. I can't wait to show the Cerulean Sisters my skills!" Just then, Brian ran up to Peter. He was a little out of breath since he was running. "Good Morning," he panted. "Ready to battle?"
Peter remembered his promise as he nodded. "You don't mind a two on two battle?" he asked. Brian had caught his breath as he smiled.
"You bet! I'll start off!" he pulled out his Pokball and threw it out. His first Pokmon was a Pidgey.
"A flying type? Okay. I'll keep it simple too," he said as he threw out his starter. Eevee was primed and ready since it was abale to capture Oddish.
"WOW! An Eevee! I always wanted one!" Brain shouted in amazement.

"Keep your mind on the battle, Brian. Being distracted can cost you," Peter advised. Brian understood as he was ready to go. "Pidgey! Gust Attack!" Brian ordered. Pidgey began to flap its wings as it picked up wind. Eevee had to hold its ground so not to be blown away.
"Eevee! Go for a Tail Whip!" Peter comanded. Eevee ran up to Pidgey and slapped it with its tail. It caught Pidgey off guard. "Pidgey! Use your Sand Attack!" Brian shouted.
Pidgey started to kick up sand which it blew into Eevee's face. "Give it a taste of its own medicine, Eevee. Sand Attack!" Peter shouted. Eevee began to throw sand which connected right in Pidgey's face.
Brian looked concerned. He had to think fast, or else he would lose this round. "Pidgey! Try Flying!" he ordered. Pidgey flew up high so that Eevee couldn't hit it. "Smart thinking. I like your strategy," Peter commended. "Eevee! You can't hit Pidgey if its in the air like that! You'll have to wait until its at the right time!" he advised. Eevee stood its ground and waited for an attack.
Brian then smiled as he began to give out an order. "NOW PIDGEY! DIVE!" Pidgey dove down aiming for Eevee. Peter began to watch as Pidgey came closer. "Wait for it," he said to Eevee. Pidgey was just over Eevee as it continued its decent.
"Now! Quick Attack!" Peter shouted. Eevee jumped back just missing the sharp end of Pidgey's attack. It then tackled Pidgey causing it to slide into Brian's leg.
"NO WAY!" he shouted as he recalled Pidgey. "That was so close! But I'll win this time," he said as he threw out his second Pokmon. It was a Bulbasaur. Peter then took a good glance at what he was up against.
"You have a grass type? And you lost to the Cerulean Sisters?" he asked in concern. Brian dropped his head as he realized it as well.

"I know. I did had the type advantage, but they were still better than me. I won't mess up this time!" he responded. Peter looked at the Pokball with Oddish in it. He knew if he was going to stand a chance, he would need to get Oddish prepared. "If they're that good against a grass type, I'll need to give mine the experience it needs to win," he said recalling Eevee. He then threw out Oddish to the field. Oddish was primed and ready for action.
"Okay Oddish. You'll need more than your basic attacks to win. Use Stun Spore!" he shouted. Oddish began to shake its leaves as it created a cloud towards Bulbasaur.
"Give it a Leech Seed, Bulbasaur!" Brian ordered. Bulbasaur shot out a seed from its bulb which landed on Oddish. The seed then sprouted as it covered its leaves.
"Don't let it get to you, Oddish! Try your Acid!" Peter commanded. Oddish spit out a ball that hit Bulbasaur in the face. Bulbasaur cried out in pain as it began to sting.
"Bulbasaur!" Brian shouted in concern. He then had to think of what to do next. "Hit it with your Vine Whip!" Bulbasaur streached out its vines and swated Oddish with them. Oddish felt a little woozy since the Leech Seed was still planted on it.

Peter knew that an Absorb attack wouldn't be able to help since Oddish had to be close to connect with it. "Oddish! You have to dig deep inside! There's an attack you haven't used yet. Use that attack and give it all you got!" he advised. Even though Oddish was swaying back and forth, it began to feel something inside itself.
"Bulbasaur! Finish it with your Tackle!" Brian shouted. Bulbasaur began to charge at Oddish. As it approached, Oddish looked like it was dancing. Peter looked at Oddish in awe. "Can it be?" he said to himself. Bulbasaur rushed at Oddish only to miss by a hair. Oddish had danced out of Bulbasaur's way as it continued to move in a peculiar manner. "It has to be..." Peter thought. He then began to give the order.
"Oddish... Use your Petal Dance!" Oddish spun in the air as it threw out leaves which peirced Bulbasaur like razors. Bulbasaur fell down as it fainted. Brian was stunned. "I DON'T BELIEVE IT! YOU WON!" he shouted. He then ran to Bulbasaur. Peter then recalled Oddish as he then turned to his opponent.
"Is it alright?" he asked. Brian checked on Bulbasaur. "He'll be okay if I take him to the Pokmon Center. Thank you Peter," he responded. Peter looked at Brian oddly. "What for?" he asked.
"For the battle and that lesson. I think I'll keep training Bulbasaur and Pidgey and all my other Pokmon until they're ready to take on the Cerulean Sisters,"

Peter smiled as he extended his hand out. "I should thank you. My Oddish would not have learned Petal Dance if you didn't challenge me last night. Why don't we call it even?"
Brian liked the idea has he shook Peter's hand. "Deal!" The two seemed to have a new understanding after their battle. It would take more than just a type advantage to win a battle. And Peter knew it would have to take more than just one Pokmon to win...
