Chapter 2: Destiny and Fate

Peter's ranch near Mt. Silver was filled with Pokémon that he had caught years ago. He takes care of them indavidually with utmost care. He was proud of the results that he wanted to try once again to challenge the Ellite Four. However, he noticed how happy the Pokémon seemed to be on the ranch. He thought it would be better if they stayed where they were since they were happy.

Meowth, one of his top Pokémon, was enjoying his favorate pastime. Peter was busy preparing a big breakfast for the two of them. Peter seemed to be lost in his thoughts for some reason. As Meowth was playing around, he stopped and noticed a burnt smell.

"HEY! ARE YOU TRYING TO BURN DOWN THE PLACE!???" he shouted out. Peter looked down and realized his eggs were burning. "AW MAN!!!" he shouted as he took the pan to the sink. Meowth was disappointed as he watched breakfast go down the disposal.
"Well, what are we gonna have for breakfast now?" he bickered. Peter looked down at the sink again as he was once again lost in his thoughts. Meowth looked at Peter wondering what was his problem. "HELLO!? Earth to Peter? This is your Pokémon talking to you!" Peter snapped out of his trance and looked back at Meowth. "I'm sorry. I just had a few things on my mind," he stated.
"You've been doing that three days in a row!" he barked out. "What's the matter with you?"
Peter sat down by the table as he let out a deep breath. "I feel like I need to go out and try again," he responded. Meowth didn't seem too surprized about his answer. "I knew you were wanting to get back into the league, but how are you gonna do that?" he asked.
"I know what you mean. I don't want to ship all of them to a storage with Bill, but I won't be able to go anywhere if I leave them here with nobody to tend to them," he thought about it for a while as Meowth came up with an idea.
"I got it! Let's hire someone to take care of your Pokémon," he proclaimed.
"Hire someone?" Peter replied. He thought about it for a moment then shook his head. "I don't think I can afford to pay someone to watch the Pokémon while I'm away. It take months for a trainer to go on his journey. Who would stay that long? As a matter of fact, how would I be able to pay them?" The two then began to think some more until a growling in both their stomachs began to take over their conversation. Peter then decieded to start over with breakfast.

Meanwhile...

Johnathan had just finished making his bed and began to head downstairs. His mother was busy with making breakfast for the two of them. "Is that you, Johnny?" she asked. She had always called him Johnny ever since he was born.
"Yes, mom. Is breakfast ready yet?" he replied. His mother had just put the meal on the plates and set them on the dining table.
"Here you are," she said warmly. She was in an exceptionaly good mood this morning. "I still can't believe you're leaving for Kanto. I'm so proud of you," she praised. Johnathan grinned as he ate his meal.
"I know. But I'm proud of Nova. He did more of the work," he said.
Nova is Johnathan's Charizard. He had originally lived in Kanto before his father passed away. His mother decided to move to New Bark Town in Johto to start over. Johnathan had returned from Blackthorn city where he had earned his final badge. He was about ready to leave to Olivine City to catch a ride to Kanto.
"I almost forgot something," his mom said as she picked up a package from the side of her chair. "Your Pokégear came in."
Johnathan finished his milk and took the package. The Pokégear looked simalar to a watch. However it has many features that give any trainer a better advantage on the road. "Okay! I was wondering when it would get here. I can't believe it broke on me," he said.
"It looks okay now, Johnny. I also put in my number for you," she said. Johnathan checked it to make sure it was working properly. "I guess I should see Professor Elm now. I'll call you later, mom," he said as he got up from his seat. He gave his mother a hug and kiss and left for Professor Elm's lab.

Back at the ranch, Peter had just finished his late breakfast and is sitting in his favorate chair. He watches over al of his Pokémon as they grow stronger every day. Peter still wonders when he will ever be able to enter the Pokémon league. As he continues to watch his Pokémon, a knock on the door breaks him from his thoughts. "Who is it?" he shouts out. There was no answer. Peter then got up from his chair and went inside. "Meowth, are you playing games with the door?" he asks. Meowth is fast asleep on the floor. The knock continues as Peter then heads to the door.
Peter is surprized to see a familiar face when he opened the door. "Loreli?" he said in shock. Loreli was one of the ellite four three years ago. "It's been a long time, Peter," she responded. Peter nodded. He remembered the last time he encountered her Ice Pokémon and how he barely managed to defeat them. "Come on in," he said.
Loreli walked in casualy as Peter closed the door. "What brings you here?" he asked. Loreli looks around the living room for a moment. "Nice place. I thought you lived in Saffron?" she answered.
"Well, I moved here after I lost. But what can I do for you?"
Loreli then walks up to Peter. Her eyes were warm, yet serious. "I wanted to see if you had a job opening," she replied. Peter was a bit surprized by her request. "What happened with the ellite four?" he asked.
"I left. I wanted to pursue my training methods a little further. And..." she looked out to the Peter's Pokémon. "I want to know more about Pokémon. You have quite a few. I thought I could help out,"
Peter thought about the situation. "I may have an idea. Come with me," he said leading Loreli into the ranch. Peter took her into a small patch of tall grass where an egg is laying in a nest.
"Your Pokémon are breeding?" she asked in amazement. As Peter was about to answer, the egg began to shake. "Well, to answer your question, let's see what happens," he said. The egg then cracked as it shook wildly. The two looked in awe as they witnessed a Pokémon being born.
"This is so amazing," Loreli said. The egg finally hatches out as a baby Pokémon emerged from the egg. Its appearence looked simalar to Jigglypuff. Peter then picks up the little fellow as he turned his attention to Loreli "This little fellow isn't the only one born. I had a few other of my Pokémon began breeding all over the ranch," he explained. "I have a few eggs in an incubator and I hope they're ready for hatching,"
Loreli began to understand why Peter moved to this ranch. "I see. Were you going to use them in a Pokémon battle?" she asked.
"I'd love to, but I can't. There's nobody to tend to my Pokémon if I left," he replied. Loreli looked at him as if to say he is wrong. Peter looked at her and knew what she meant. "I didn't want to ask, but if you want to watch my Pokémon while I'm away," he couldn't finish. Loreli put her finger over his lips. She leaned over closer to him.
"You don't have to say another word. I'l be more than happy to," she said calmly. Peter then smiled as he then put the Pokémon down. He then took Loreli back inside where he then explained his plans...
