Our Philosophy

TamaNeko Cattery is dedicated to responsible breeding.  We believe that kittens should be raised with love and placed in homes that will cherish them their whole lives through.  As part of the responsibility of breeding, we keep our litters staggered to prevent ever having more kittens than we have adequate time for, and also to make sure our queens have a large rest between litters.

Here at TamaNeko, we take responsibility for every kitten we produce.  We do not overbreed, we do not back to back breed, and we do not line or inbreed.  Compared to some catteries, we are a very small operation, but that was our plan from the start.  We do not breed for profit, we are not interested in getting the 'maximum yield' out of our queens.  We are committed to bringing healthy, happy, loveable kittens into the lives of other.  Note that I did not say 'loveable munchkin kittens'; we do not differentiate the value between a standard short legged munchkin or their non-standard long legged siblings, every kitten in our household is loved and spoiled unconditionally and we take great care in placing every kitten.
Due to the small size of our cattery, occasionally we have waiting lists.  We ask that people be patient, because we would rather wait an extra month between breeding to make sure our queens are in top physical and emotional condition than cause them stress.  As I noted before, our adults are our personal pets, they're our babies, and their health and emotional well being will
always come first.
Our committment to our kittens does not end when the kitten joins it's new home.  We are always available for follow-ups, and in fact encourage them.  We enjoy getting reports on how the kittens are doing.  A garauntee is offered in our purchase agreement stating the kitten is free from disease and congenital defects, and also in our purchase agreement is the buy-back policy.  If, for any reason, circumstances require the new owners to give up their kitten, there is a clause in our fee agreement that we will get first option to buy the kitten back, and that under
no circumstances will one of our kittens be given to a shelter or rescue.  Whatever the reason, if the new owner's circumstances change so they can no longer care for the kitten, or just decide a cat no longer fits into their life (God forbid!), we will take the kitten (or cat) back for a refund of the kitten/cat's current value (applicable to kittens sold as breeders and then neutered, or kittens that have been declawed) and attempt to find a new home for it.  If we cannot find a home for it, the kitten/cat will always be welcome to stay with us.

Another part of responsible breeding is keeping our cats healthy and safe.  We do not ever pair our females with outside males.  All of our cats are indoor cats who do not go outside, and the only time an adult leaves our facility is for vet visits.  Our males are available for stud services, but an application must be filled out and accompanied by copies of vaccination records, copies of test results for FIV/FIP/FeLuk or a health certificate less than one month old, and a veterinary reference.  We, in return, provide you with the same.  To prevent 'backyard breeding', we ask that you also provide us with your TICA certificate number or proof of other affiliation (Such as TCA/ACFA, etc).  Please also note that kittens from any breeding, except to another registered munchkin or cat registered as experimental munchkin breeder, are not registerable with TICA and must be neutered.
