"This is Snake, Colonel can you hear me?" is the first line you hear on your codec (your device to get info from Snake's support crew while playing) as you start Metal Gear Solid and a line as a gamer you may never forget. Metal Gear Solid is what a game should be in this day and time and although it's now over 3 years old it's still THE best game on the Playstation, oh I'm sure there are many out there saying "Whoa hold on Final Fantasy is the BEST." not in my humble opinion because out of all the PSX FF's made how many were actually a huge leap from the SNES games? MGS manages to bring in all of it's best elements from the original NES game into the 3D world along with a host of new ones and one of the best stories you'll ever see on you playstation and possibly any system. You play as Solid Snake a longtime soldier who fought two Metal Gears a bidpedal Nuclear Equipped Walking Battle Tank. A new soldier in a special unit know as Foxhound Snake took a mission to save a man known as Grey Fox. Along the way he was betrayed by the commander of his unit known known as Big Boss.Years later Snake lost his friend Frank Yaeger/Grey Fox (whom he rescued in the first game) because he sided with Big Boss during the second game which forced Snake to fight him in hand to hand combat in a minefield and kill him to get to the new metal gear and save the world . Now a few year have passed and Snake has retired from Fox Hound living alone in Alaska, but a sudden emergency arises that requires Snakes services. Snake is "taken" from his home in Alaska and told while on a sub in the Bering Sea by the Colonel from the second game who took Big Bosses place as commander of Fox Hound that Snake needs to accept a mission due to the fact a Nuclear Disposal site has been taken over by Snake's former unit of FOX HOUND, led by their leader Liquid Snake whom bears a striking resemblance to Solid Snake. Snake of course accepts the mission and things only get more interesting from their the members of Fox Hound are interesting characters with well thought out back stories and reasons for what their doing along with all the characters having some of the best voice acting this side of a Saturday Morning Cartoon and the game having so many twists and turns in the plot you'll be on the edge of your seat till the end.Graphics in the game are about as good as PSone gets without being prerendered, everything is in full 3D and greatly detailed. The controls are a bit of a challenge to get use to at the start of the game but after some time they become as natural as they could be, your goal in this game is not to go nuts like in other games and simply blow the soldiers away , actually in this game it's the worst thing you could possibly do as once your spotted you have a whole bunch of soldiers on your tail till you manage to hide and try again or die a brutal death.
