| Crash Bandicoot is there any other character more synonimous with Sony . Although, we all know now Crash will be hitting all the major consoles soon since Universal has taken the reigns away from Sony and series creator Naughty Dog. As far as Crash goes Warped is most likely his Swan Song because even the newest Crash created for the PS2 doesn't seem to fair as well with Naughty Dogs games due to a different developer creating it. But what a game this one is Warped is probably is one of, if not THE best platform game on Playstation Crash has all his original moves as well as some new things like a rocket launcher that he earns by beating bosses. Warped also introduced a new villain to the series in Uka Uka, Dr. Cortexes boss. Set free from his eternal prison by Cortexes ship crashing into it (the ship being messed up by Crash in the last game) Uka Uka is set free and furious that his henchman Cortex has failed so miserably time after time being beaten by the Orange Bandicoot thus, he hires a new man to help handle the job N. Tropy who is a master of time and sends back in time a bunch of baddies to get the crystals that Cortex failed to get in the last game by finding them in their original places hidden through time. Of Course this sets our heroes of Crash, Coco and Aku Aku out to stop them, setting the pace for the game. Which of course leads us to the levels through time, some are set where you mainly run forward to the end of the level spinning and jumping all the way like the previous games. The other levels are more varied ranging from Swimming, Flying Airplanes, driving motorcycles, and running through levels on rails on a Polar Bear or Baby T-Rex. Each level is made well and most of all is fun. The graphics also are about as good as you'll ever see on a Playstation Naughty Dog knew the system and knew it well while most PSX games have tons of pixels on characters and dark looking enviroments. Naughty Dog managed to get colorful ,vibrant, and very little pixellation into this game and it's noticeable from the start of the first level and beyond. If I have one complaint about Warped is that the levels are more of the same from the older games as your running to one part of the level to the other is about all you do which some more exploration would have been nice but of course then that would detract from what makes Crash different and sometimes more fun then games like Mario 64. While Crash focuses on action and keeps you going through the levels instead of doing like Mario 64 where your constantly searching for items and move at a slow pace . Well, to sum up if I had to pick one platform game to own on my Playstation this would be it (although, Spyro would be a close second on that list). This ones a must buy if you own a Psone heck even a PS2 as the game is a Greatest Hits game now. Review by Preston Kilday |
