Mmmmmm......Bananas......

Donkey Kong Land is quite possibly one of the most amazing feats I've seen done on the original chrome gameboy they squeezed the prerendered characters of the SNES version of Donkey Kong Country onto a Gameboy cartridge. You play as Donkey or Diddy Kong as well as from time to time riding Donkey Kong Countries infamous animal buddies. The game plays almost identical to the console versions but it's level set is made up differently then that of DKC on SNES it's an entirely different game kind of like the Gameboy Mario's (not counting the advance Mario's) are original games with some of the same characters. Unlike the horrendous framerate of the rendered Mortal Kombat 3 also on Gameboy, DKL has a pretty smooth framerate only slowing down slightly when there are a large amount of enemies on the screen. The characters are all very detailed and look very much like their console counterparts including the enemies unfortunately the background are slightly more sparse then those of the console version but that's understandable and it's not such a huge difference that it detracts from the game. If you can find this one (it seems to be getting harder and harder to get original Gameboy games these days) I highly suggest picking it up as it's one of the best platformers on the Gameboy consoles (all three of them) of course Donkey Kong Country for GBC is a good alternative but this one is not a port like that one so it gets my vote as the better of the two for originality the downside of course is this one isn't colorized. Also worth mentioning is this game does have battery save (most GB games have passwords for continuation of a previous game). To sum it up if you liked any of the Donkey Kong Country styled games or platform games in general this is a must buy. Review By Preston Kilday
