Deserted Island: Part 1
photo
The hallowed Libba Bray, author of TWO of my favorite books written in the last half-century, wrote her absolutely necessary playlist on her LJ today, and I being the poseur that I am need to copy her, without quite as much opening banter. I'm afraid opening banter would scare the people off.
So basically, I have here compiled a list of the songs that I would want to have available if I were dropped on a deserted island. Enjoy!

'Hoe Down' - Aaron Copeland. Don't laugh! It makes me feel like frolicking through the streets with my hair down and a banjo strapped to my back. It makes me want to ride the rails to Nevada. It makes me want to live in 1878, and travel with hobos.

'Relativity' - An Seanduine Dóite. The chances that anyone who reads this has heard this song are quite slim, so I'll just say this: gorgeous! Bawdy celtic folk has never sounded more ethereal.

'Stand By Me' - Ben E. King. It's my mushy song, and it will be played at my wedding.

'Time Ago' - Black Dog. My mid-teenagehood mush song. In my head, I have a storyline associated with it. That is a storyline that involved vampires and will probably never see the light of day, but it runs in my head every time I hear it. 'All by ourselves riding in the front seat, watch the sun come up / All by ourselves, we will run / Remember who I was, so long ago'.

'For What It's Worth' - Buffalo Springfield. I will never be able to get images of this song, as performed on 'The Muppets Show,' or the one shot from 'Forrest Gump' out of my head when I hear this song. I adore 'The Muppets Show' and 'Forrest Gump,' so those images are welcome.

'Glycerine' - Bush. Again, don't laugh. This song brings up memories of me driving home from work at 11:00 at night, windows rolled down and thinking about sad things. It's my Emo song, okay?!

'I Want You to Want Me' - Cheap Trick. YES! YES! Oh dear goodness, yes!

'Under Pressure' - David Bowie and Queen. This song makes me feel amazing, when I'm walking to class (especially toward an exam). I have visions of myself being exceptionally cool when I hear this song, particularly when I'm listening on my MP3 player and no one else can hear.

'Precious' - Depeche Mode. I'm not like normal New Wave fans; I was born after 1978, and don't actually remember the old days when New Wave was New. I do, however, love Depeche Mode, and 'Precious' is an amazing example of the capabilities of the genre. And it's terribly, terribly infectious.

'Misfit' - Elefant. This is dream!Me, driving along the beach by the ocean, talking about the dreams we had while we were growing up, with dream!Friends. 'Tell me your name, tell me you're story, 'cause I'm into it.'

'Santa Monica' - Everclear. This is how I feel about everyone important who has been in my life and is now gone. Sniffles.

'Evil' - Interpol. Just listen, and you will know.

'Johnny Appleseed' - Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros. Yeah, Joe Strummer without The Clash! This song is my favorite driving-with-the-windows-open song. I imagine driving around with this song playing at every stage in my life. And I can actually understand what he's saying!

'Breath' - Pearl Jam. No, I'm not the PJ fan that some of my friends are, but this song, makes me sad that I missed out on grunge.

'Under the Milky Way' - Seven Nations. I wouldn't be the person I am if not for this band. Yes, they are to blame.

'Anarchy In the U.K.' - The Sex Pistols. The rebel inside wants to burn something.

'Where Is My Mind?' - The Pixies. My theme song through much of 2006.

'Heart In A Cage' - The Strokes. My new theme song! Joy. It makes me feel unlonely.

'Istanbul (Not Constantinople)' - They Might Be Giants. - Another band to blame for me being me. I first heard this song on Tiny Toons, and my world was never the same.

'Joy To the World' - Three Dog Night. My party song! It makes me want to dance on a tabletop.

'Pride (In The Name of Love)' - U2. No explaination required.

'Y Control' - The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Another driving with the windows open song! It's my roadtrip with people I love song.

What are your needed tracks? Tell me, I might be missing something!
