Druglaw: The Paper
photo
Alas, the incertitude of the law!
- Edmund Burke

My mother has agreed to send me information about her recent case involving drug law, and her view of her client's state of mind while he sat in detention. This was his first time through the system, so I think a subjective view of his experience could work out well for my paper. Hooray!

In clinical practice, I am seriously considering inmate populations, particularly drug and sex offenders. I'm interested in the effectiveness of therapy for them; everybody says, "Oh, no, sex offenders aren't curable," but their recidivism rates aren't nearly as bad as violent offenders. At the same time, I realize they destroy lives. But if they want help controlling their behaviors, they shouldn't be counted out because of the nature of their offense.

As for clinical psych, I am going to write a piece on false memories. There's a lot of research out there, particularly from cognitive psychologists (duh), and a strong connection can be made between those findings (that basically our brains are mush and memories are like raisins in said mush) and people's "recollections" of childhood traumas (like childhood sexual abuse). Let's not discuss dissociative disorders that screw with memory, because that turns my six-page paper into a twenty-page nightmare.
