Entry for July 11, 2006
Hi Friends and Family,
Today was a good, encouraging, hard day for Phil. (If that makes sense). We got him all settled at Good Sam. R.I.O. it is a very nice upbeat program. They started right in and got to work. Phil had a nasty headache again all day but he worked on through. His cognitive thinking is just a little slow and that is due to the continued swelling in his brain, that will improve in time. The neurological psychologist thinks he will do great it may take 6-9 months but he thinks he will be back to better than 90% by then. And good chance even better. Phil still has trouble eating. I pretty much have to make sure he eats, he would rather not. The nausea is still bugging him and the dizziness. Tonight I told him I wouldn't be able to sleep if he didn't eat so he just looked at me and then finished up his main course and left the rest. He didn't eat his lunch, mostly just drank the liquids. His balance standing is improving.
The people at R.I.O. think he will be out of thee for sure in 3 weeks maybe less. He may get to come home for a trial visit not this weekend but the next. When he finally gets to come home for keeps he will continue to have out patient therapy 3-4 times a week until they release him. Everyone there who works with him thinks he is doing great. He is trying hard, he's just miserable. He tries to do everything with his eyes closed because the light hurts his head.
Phil has a 55 year old roommate named Jack he messed himself up really bad in a motorcycle accident in May. He has nothing but good things to say about everything and everyone there. It's good Phil has someone closer to his age to room with. Jack has a crazy laugh. Ask Josh about it. Jack is sick of all the chicken they serve there. At least you can tell it's chicken who knows what that mystery meat was at Mt. Hood.
Well, we are Thankful for this great rehab place Phil can go to he will get better 100 times faster there than if he didn't have it. Thank you all for praying, and for everything else we are so blessed.
Love Donna Phil
