Good times

This past weekend, we traveled up to Illinois to attend a family get together at my Uncle Robert’s house. All of the family on my mom’s side get together every October. We have always done this to celebrate my Grandfather’s birthday. He passed a few years ago, but we still feel like his birthday is a time for celebration.

We got to my parents house Friday around 5pm after a very easy 10 hour trip. The kids got out and started to explore Papaw and Grandma’s farm. We saw pigs (of course), squirrels, cats, and even one-week old kittens. Gage showed no fear towards any animal as he would basically chase the cats around.

Saturday morning, some friends of ours came over to see the kids. We all played out side until the my brother’s kids, Nathaniel, Patrick, and Victoria, showed up. Mom wanted pictures of them with all their grandkids, so they all put on their yellow shirts and posed. There were plenty of cute moments, including Katherine holding Victoria’s hand.

In the afternoon, we went to Uncle Robert’s and Aunt Jan’s house for the family get-together. First, let me tell you about my cousin Dan and his wife Lisa’s triplets, Bret, Bradley, and Lauren. They are now five years old and in Kindergarten, but Aunt Jan did daycare for them at her house. They also had a fourth, Jessica, who now has Aunt Jan all to herself. As you can imagine, they had kid toys everywhere, including a pink, electric Jeep. What fun! Uncle Robert also brought out the giant bubble maker. Cool!

When it was time to eat, Jan brought out these little Wicker chairs for the kids to sit in and eat their hot dogs. We had tons of fun as the kids were playing with Cecilia, Lisa, Barb, Kathy, Jim, Marty, Lou, Chris, Sam, and Maggie, as well.

Sunday, Great Grandpa Grossman came over and visited. I must admit, I let Amy do all the packing in the van as Grandpa, Dad, and I sat outside in lawn chairs. Yeah, I know that’s crummy, but hey, he’s 95 years old. The kids had fun with him as well.

We headed back, starting around 10am, and got to KC just a little before 6pm. We stopped at KB and John’s house to hang out with Carter before we got back in the car for the last 3 hours. Uncle Gavin and Aunt Susie also came over as we all ate Pizza and played with the kids.

Weekends are great until you realize that you have to go back to work.
