What If?...
By:Brian Alspaugh 12/10/01
A journey into some interesting possibilites that could revoultionize games forever.

If there is one thing that is sorely lacking on all game systems, it's software.  Aside from a few music programs on the PS2 and the God-Awful Criss-Cross game for Sega CD their have been almost no programs.  For awhile this made since, who wanted to use a Super Nintendo game as a program?  And what could really be accomplished that coulnd't be accomplished on a computer?  But now times are changing.  Stick with me as I explain an idea that could change everything.
At heart almost everything gamer would like to create a game.  Although many don't have programming skill, they have great idea's and creativity that they would like to put to use.  I propose a software program for the Gamecube that would allow users to create games.  You may be thinking this is not a new idea, which it's not, but i am looking at it in a whole new way.
What if you were able to create a game and save it on your memory card?  This is not as far-fetched as it seems.  Nintendo plans on releasing 1 gig memory cards next year.  That's almost the size of a Gamecube game.  Wouldn't it be cool to pop in a disc, create a game, put it on a memory card and play it at a friends house?
This would also work on the PS2 and the X-Box because both have hard drives.  I would be interested in buying such a program and I don't think I am alone on this matter.  It could even be broke down into catogories like a fighting game program and a racing game program.  This might also benefit game companies bankrupt on idea's that keep rehashing the same ideas.  Not that i'm talking about one particular company.
Now I understand this probably won't happen, and I'm sure the process would be alot more complicated, but it's always fun to sit back and ask what if?
A medium for the gamer's imagination?
Possible storage for your very own game?
