| The Fall Of Metallica By: Brian Alspaugh II 1/09/01 Metallica was on top of the world. The best rock band around, tons of fan's, fame and money. The band who toured for two and a half years just because they could. The band who set their own rules and then broke them. Now Metallica is in shambles. Their last single ironicly titled "I Disapear" was released in 1998 and nothing has been done since. Their last new album was released in 1996. The last few years have not been going well for one of the best bands to come around in a long time. First Metallica battled with Napster, and although they fought for musician's rights, they were made out to be bad guys. They were singled out even though other musicans were against the program, including Dr. Dre. This would just be the begining of their problem's. Soon after long time bass player Jason Newstead (Pictured Below Right) left the band. Metallica was now without a bass player to work on their new cd. Even this wasn't the end. Now long after lead singer James Hetfeild checked into rehab. But now thing's finally seem to be coming back together. James has left rehab feeling better than he has in years. They are even talking with Newstead about re-joining the band. 2002 may turn out to be Metallica's year yet. This long time fan hopes so anyways. |
