Ogun Balendjo

One of the most respected Loas in Dominican Voodoo is, Ogun Balendjo,(Saint James). His feast day is July 25. His color, (contrary to Haitian Vodoun, which is red) is blue. His drink is red wine. And he smokes tabaque cigar. Ogun Balendjo is a very serious Loa! When he takes possession of a head, all present shut up so that they may hear him speak. He is very well respected. Since he is the husband of Metresili, in Dominican altars, one would find his image next to that of Our Lady of Sorrows (Metresili).

Ogunis also "delicate" in a sence. He wont take possesion either if the place is dirty. Aswell, in order for him to take possesion, the horse should be free of tafia, rum.

Yet, when he does take possesion, Ogun Balendjo speaks firmly with a very manly voice. He gives the general salutation of the Loa:Bonswa A La Societ! He asks for his blue fula and in certain occations, he asks for his robe and cape. Which are also blue. After being dressed, he asks for his tafia and his tabaque. He is then ready to consult.

In Haitian Vodou, the Ogun Loa are wariors, and Balendjo is used for healing. In Dominican Voodun, Ogun Balendjo is "used" for the same, yet also against enemies, and during hard times.
