Pied Butcher Bird  (Cracticus nigrogularis) Play Audio Clip
This Pied Butcher Bird was a regular visitor at suburban garden. A family of these came along just before or just after the magpies to feed on mince and meat scraps. They became tame enough to hand feed.

Grey Butcher Bird  (Cracticus torquatus) Play Audio Clip
This Grey Butcher Bird was a garden visitor for years at suburban garden. Unlike the Pied Butcher Birds who came as a family,   this one always came alone.

Torresian Crow  (Corvus orru)   Play Audio Clip
The Torresian Crow is about 48cm long. This one is easting a Cane Toad. Many birds and animals that eat Cane Toads are poisoned by the toad's venom.  The crow has figured out how to feed on Cane Toads and survive. It swings the toad around by the back leg until it overturns it, then feeds on the soft underside. This keeps it way from the poison glands on the toad's back.

This photograph was taken in the Japanese Garden in Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens, Brisbane.
