Well whatever happens, the end result is baby
Pseudemydura umbrina
s!
Sickeningly cute isn't he?
This year has produced a bumper crop of 75 hatchlings - considering that
there are only about 300 in the wild this is a VERY big deal!
The coloured spots painted on the carapace are for identifcation purposes.
Adult tortoise winter quarters - currently empty as they are still aestivating.
Here is a large adult, peeking out from beneath the leaf-litter in the aestivation
enclosure.
A slender tree frog (
Litoria adelaidensis) keeps the hatchlings company...
...while a western bell frog or motorbike frog (
Litoria moorei) takes
advantage of the winter quarters!
Let us hope that each of these little guys will grow up...
...to become healthy adults like this one! Ones that hopefully produce more
baby tortoises.
