WEEDY SEA DRAGON - 2002, acrylics on paper & 2D digital

seadragon

This image was inspired by dives off North Mole at Fremantle where the water there is packed with Weedy Seadragons (well...figuratively speaking...saw 3 or 4 of them). Anyone who thinks that there is no magic on this Earth has never swum with Phyllopteryx before - swaying with the current like dead kelp they hardly seem alive until you see the flickering dorsal fin.

Er...incidentally this is a different seadragon from the one you often see on nature documentaries - thats usually the Leafy Seadragon - Phycodurus eques - less colourful, more ornate tassling.

It's great to have cool marine life practically on your doorstep!
