Officer Sun was born to be a Sebacean Peacekeeper. The corps was her life. She was accidentally involved with the renegade prisioners who took over Moya and at first was their prisioner. However when she was declared "Irreversibly contaminated" and excorcised from her own people she joined Moya's mottley crew and is discovering things about herself she'd never known before.

Zhaan is a Delvian high priest of the 10th level and pursues spiritual unity within herself and with others. She has some remarkable abilities including the ability to share another's pain and so lessen another's suffering, and a knowledge of healing. But she can also defend herself surprisingly well and is very strong. Delvians are actually plant descended, not animal descended, which means Zhaan's blue skin hides a very different physiology.
Zhaan was a prisioner on Moya for many cycles (years) for the murder of a Delvian leader who was also her lover who had let the Peacekeepers take over their world.

D'Argo was framed for the murder of his Sebacean wife by his wife's brother - who killed her for marrying a non-Sebacean. D'Argo is at heart a very loyal and soft-hearted guy, but accuse him of it and he'd probably break your neck. When a Luxan goes into hyper-rage it's best to duck for cover.
D'Argo isn't really looking to go home, but he does hope that one day he will be reunited with his son, who went into hiding after the mother's murder.

Rygel is the obnoxious ex-ruler of some 600 billion Hynerian subjects. He was kicked out of power by his brother on whom he has vowed vengence. Rygel is very good at eating, spitting, smoking and hiding if there is any work to be done. He's not the favourite of his fellow shipmates and can be extremely devious.

Chiana ran away from home. This may not seem so unusual but when the planet you run from is Nebari, which uses mind cleansing for conformity, she doesn't fit the normal pattern. She's wanted for theft, assault and battery and maybe even murder. She's part theif, part pixie and part brat.

Crais first encountered the rest of \ our crew when they took over
Moya and Crighton accidentally killed Crais' brother. He swore vengence
and chased Moya's crew all over the quadrant until he too found himself
to be an ex-peacekeeper....

Moya is a Leviathan which with Peacekeeper technology has been made into a living ship. With the aid of a Pilot which forms a symbiotic relationship, Moya can hold a good sized crew and travel quite quickly through space. Leviathan's have a defensive capability - Starburst - which enables them to 'jump' vast distances almost instantly.
When the crew took over Moya they freed her from the Peacekeepers as well, and she has been loyal to them ever since. Moya has also recently become pregnant which has led to quite a few weird happenings.
