RAISING THE WALLS
Porch and Addition
Temporary flooring was provided by some old billboard plywood as we began the process of raising the walls.
Each level of logs was measured, fitted, drilled and spiked into position.  Lifting them into position was not much of a problem once we got used to using the weight of the logs to our advantage through principles of leverage.
The gaps between the logs were chinked with "expanding foam" and then painted with latex paint  to protect from direct sunlight.  The roof beams are sections of landscape timber which we decided to use to facilitate the installation of the plywood roofing .
Roofing paper and slate & tar shingles were added.  Doors were hand built from fence planks and the windows were purchased at $5.oo each at a liquidation sale.  The cabin plan actually began around the measurements of the windows.
