Due in large part to hot, humid sultry days when any physical activity was a strain (okay, OKAY, so we have air conditioning now....), or MAYBE because of the widely divergent economic, cultural and historical perspectives, Southerners have always regarded the intellect as a fertile playground - a place of not only introspection and enlightenment, but also a font of conversation, debate and entertainment. From stories passed word of mouth, one to another down the sluggish bayou'd currents of the decades, to an appreciation of classical arts and literature, the mentally challenging has exercised and sustained the souls of the South. So try out a few of the items below, and see which suits your fancy!

"It is not enough to have a good mind.
The main thing is to use it well."---Rene Descartes

This is by no means "the" definitive list of intellectual or literary sites. It is merely a compendium of those catching my fancy at any given time, or -- due to subject matter -- holding a special place in my heart. It would not matter if I attempted to rate or rank them, for such is open to purely personal opinion; nor is there enough room to discuss their contents and/or merits. THAT is the stuff of which conversations are made!
