What is an orthotic?
An orthosis is a brace or other orthopaedic device applied to an existing segment of the body for the purpose of protecting the segment or assisting in restoration or improvement of its function. An Orthotist is specially trained in assessing on clinical basis, custom fabrication and fitting of devices. An example of this would be computer aid design postural seating systems, and hinged ankle foot orthoses to control footdrop.
How do we operate?
We work in close consultation with Doctors, Surgeons, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to achieve the best result for the patient. Another aspect of our clinic is that our fully equipped, modem workshop facility enables custom made items such as callipers, specialised arch supports, custom moulded foot/ankle orthoses, spinal supports etc to be fabricated locally. This saves the inconvenience of having to travel to major metropolitan centres, thereby saving the disruption to home life and the expenses of travel and accommodation. Follow up adjustments and modifications are easily made as well. Our clinics in various North Coast centres help in this regard.
We are your agent for a wide range of manual and electric wheelchairs, and scooters. For those problem feet we have several ranges of orthopaedic footwear, which we can custom modify. We also have pressure relief cushions for trial - Roho and Jay.
We welcome clients covered by the Dept of Veterans Affairs, workers compensation, the CRS, the PADP scheme, and other Government departments. Hospital and home visits are also catered for.
