ABOUT
THE LIBRA SET
Libra
is the seventh sign on the zodiac, which begins with Aries and ends with
Pisces. It occupies the seventh house of the natural zodiac, the one that
is directly opposite and balances the first, which is our identity and
ego expression. If the first house, or ascendant, describes the ``I" of
the chart, the seventh house, describes the ``You".
There
is always a pushing and pulling within ourselves, as we seek to express
in ways that are both true to ourselves (1st house, Aries) and which are
couched in terms that others can hear (7th house, Libra), drawing
them from mere ``spectatorship" into being equal partners in the process
of our life´s expression.
Both
choices and the decision making processes are under the aegis of Libra
and the seventh house, because the wisest of these balance our inner and
outer worlds, our own desires and the need to participate with the ``Other"(s)
in our lives.
The
Grand Arcana equivalent of Libra - and all ten planets and 12 signs have
a Tarot equivalent - is ``Justice", ergo the blindfolded archetype balancing
the sun and the moon on golden scales that accompanies this series of web
images.
Libra
is said to share Venus as its ruler with Taurus, but I have personally
come to believe, after 30 years as an astrologer, that Taurus resonates
far more closely to our own planet, the Earth. The colors for the two signs
are often flipped about, yet I feel a much closer affinity to rose tones
and pastels as Libra colors, green being so evidently earthy and Taurean.
The
Scales (the sun passes through the particular slice of the sky containing
this constellation every year when its in ``Libra") are the second of the
three air signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. My rulership library was scried
for metals pertaining to Libra, but none were to be found, so I used a
very soft pastel gold. However, marble *is* a Libra mineral, and although
many stones are ascribed to it, the one that most rings my inner bell as
a stone mage is tanzanite. This exquisite violet/pink or blue-ish stone
carries both the blue ray and the red ray, symbolizing the dance of harmonizing
opposites which is the core mystery of Libra and the seventh house.
Tanzanite
is featured on several of this set´s elements, as is the glyph for
Libra and that for its ruler, Venus.
Note
to the head shaking astrologer: How dare I make all these non-traditional
iconographic decisions? Well, first of all, I´m an Aquarius. My Sun
and Mercury´s talent is never to do that which is expected quite
in the way its expected. I have a Libra Moon, Taurus rising and Venus exactly
conjunct the north Node and exactly trine the ascendant.
I
hear Her, therefore I bejewel the Web ;->
