SC-815 Antenna Switch

I'm trying to add a manual switch to the power antenna of an 850R with the sc-815 radio. Does anyone have the correct wiring diagram?

The closest diagram I found was for the sc-816 in the s/v 70, (here) but there were some differences when compared to the sc-815 in the 850R.

In the 850R the speaker wires are not attached to the head unit, instead, they went through a DIN cable that was plugged into the AMP socket in the head unit. I'm not sure whether the power antenna wire is still wire #3 on the large 14 pin connector, does that wire also operate as the remote turn-on for the amp? Again, I'm trying to wire a manual power antenna switch so need to know if that is the only wire I would be dealing with.

Please post response to the board. Thanks in advance!

I don't know which exact wire does that but you have 2 choices, either buy the OEM wiring manual for your car from Volvo(1-800-25-volvo) or remove the panel on the LR side or your trunk and disconnect one wire at a time (cut/re-splice if need be, NOT the DIN harness) until you find which wire de-activates the motor. Then either wire the switch back there or trace the wire to where it goes into the radio.

I agree with John. For 30 dollars get the oem harness and switch. But if your a DIY'er and just enjoy tinkering, this may help (here) Good luck

Ola, first of all, the diagram you saw on ozbrick850 site is for the 815/811 unit. I know because I am the one who submitted it. The reason your speaker wires go into the amp is because you have an amp. The non-speaker related wires are the same. I have to agree that you are better off buying an OEM harness for this, but I have done without one because I could not find it at the time (I think it only became available recently). If you look at the wiring diagram you'll see that pin 3 on connector A is the antenna pin. Just put a circuit breaker (switch) into that wire and you are done. I must say that I am thinking of upgrading to the OEM style for the uniform look and backlighting.

Good luck and email if you need more help.

Vladimir,
The OEM switch is AVAILABLE! I bought one from the dealership and you'd have to tell them that you want it for a 1998 S90 otherwise they won't be able to find it. As for the switch, it's just that alone, no back end harness so you'll have to solder wires to it.

I'm going to try to tinker with it this afternoon, hope it works out.

Thanks for posting the diagram.

('finale' thread)

Ok, many thanks to those who offered suggestions on which wire to tap for the manual antenna switch I was wiring to my sc-815.

Here's what you need if you also want to install a switch so the antenna doesn't stick out like a sore thumb when you only listen to CDs.

1) Switch - cost between $25-50 depending on the dealership
(location# 1001 08034 part# 9447386) OEM on the S90/960
you should also buy the harness with the switch unless you can tap the wires yourself.

2) Remove the radio 1) by pushing in the slim tabs on the edges of the radio. 2) pull the levers when they have extended.

3) The trigger wire for the power antenna is the solid RED wire on the large-14 wire-connecter on the back sc-815/816. Its location is the third wire from the left on the top row. Just cut that wire and connect it to theVolvo OEM Antenna Switch that fits nicely on your dash (in the vacant spot to the right of your steering column).

BTW, I didn't bother to hook up the illumination wires for now, if someone figures out which wires to tap into please post here.

Thanks!

I know that the switch exists now. I even have the part number.
Aerial Down Switch Kit - PN 9204656
I got this info from BB and I believe the person who provided it said that this particular part number
includes the harness. Just plugs into your radio in the back. I haven't verified it yet, since I already have a
home-grown solution that works. It is just a matter of appearance for me at this point.

Thanks for the S90 tip, though.
