850 Radio Codes

recovering codes on the SC 705 & 905

Ian Tew gives us some great information on how to get to the 850 radio code if your conventional enquiries get you nowhere!
I recently bought an 850 saloon from a local garage, on collection the owner informed me that there was a problem with the radio and he did not have the security code but he would contact the previous owner to let me know (he never called). I contacted the main agent who said that with proof of ownership and the registration details that they would find the code for me via the Volvo database. The code they gave me did not work and they suggested that the radio had been exchanged or replaced. After some research a solution was found

Remove the radio from the car and remove the screw at the rear of the top plate. Gently prise the top plate up and remove. Release the four screws (indicated by yellow arrows in Figure 1) and gently prise out the two cassette connectors, also indicated. The transport mechanism can now be lifted out.

Figure 1.

A matrix of twelve diodes will be visible on the main PCB (Figure 2) the diodes determine the radio security code.

Figure 2.

Using the software programme (download below), tick the appropriate boxes to indicate the diodes present and leave blank the boxes where the diode has been removed. Press the calculate button to reveal the radio code.

Two software programmes are included, one for the CR905 radio cassette and the other for the CR705 radio cassette model.

Hope this information will benefit your members
