Rotors: crossdrilled, slotted, grooved, etc...

Brembo Rotors[850][1996]    Michael -- Saturday, 19 May 2001, at 10:45 p.m.

It is time for new rotors for my 96 850 R, and I am thinking of purchasing the Brembo Cross Drilled rotors,
however I have no clue where to buy them at.

 Ideas?

 IPD carries them I think

I can get crossdrilled and slotted Brembo rotors for you. I am reviewing them for Volvospeed as we speak.
With shipping cost is something like 250 for a full set.

had zimmerman cross drilled rotors on a prior 850 turbo wagon and the noise from the cross drilling was
pretty irritating...sounded like a weedwacker off in the distance every time you hit the brakes. not a brake
squeal but rather a slight wooshing sound that bugged me every time i had the windows open. had a 930
w/ cross drilled that didn't make that noise but the 850 sure did ;(

i wd avoid cross-drilled rotors. in fact i wd avoid Brembos at the Fr. here's the recent (in fact, present!)
experience of a buddy of mine with 855T5A. 1st brembo (280mm, not drilled or slotted) Fr rotors lasted
some 3 weeks, then they warped. he complained and got (same type) replacement Brembos again, this
time, he was told not to fit the "balancing pin" cos they already come factory balanced. lasted 2 mths i think
 before they warped too.
another friend used brembos too, cross-drilled - this is 2 yrs back - and he auto-x on them. one of them
shattered on the track! that said he already saw hairline cracks earlier but ignored them. he then went for
replacmeent brembo big brake kit 320mm - guess what? warped that too!
alright, mebbe the above is not quite a fair assessment, but if you in my shoes and you heard/saw first
hand accounts, my guess is you wouldnt want to take chances either.
stick with OEM (rotors n pads) at the Fronts. you can use whatever other brands at Rr cos they're not so
 sensitive at the back.

Is it $250 for cross drilled and slotted alike?

I was thinking about trying some slotted rotors.

How can I get in on this?

They are drilled and slotted. I can look for a source for just slotted if you want. Let me know. You know me. I
am always looking for new discounts.

IPD no longer list cross-drilled Brembo as available on their
web site. A while back the web site mentioned the cross-drilled
had problems with warping for street use. They now seem to
be recommending the slotted rotors, instead.

You might contact IPD and ask their opinion for more details.

 >By the way, if you want a pair of those ATE grooved rotors, you can get them from
http://www.alloemvolvoparts.com/ for $44.77 each, and they offer free shipping for orders over $50. In
comparison, gapa.com has them for $62.56 and IPD has them for $65.90.

That is what I copied from Swedepseed, one of the member there, Michael , found this connection for
 these cheap rotors.

Just checked it out. It doesn't say they are slotted. They say they are OE replacements.

They have links to the products: Front, 280mm (11") O.D. Rear. Then they show you Brembo and
 Zimmerman.

 Are they slotted?

Email them and ask if you dont' want to call. I might give them a call later. I believe most of the ATE rotors
 are slotted.....

Brake rotor question[850][1993] dj -- Thursday, 17 May 2001, at 3:14 p.m.

Which brand of brake rotors is better: Brembo or Ate/Bremsen? Or are they the same company? Thanks.

Better? In what way?..I just got finished changing the fronts on my wife's 850. Zimmerman's $60/pair+$13
shipping from Foreign Car Parts of Groton.
Seem to be just fine. Changed the pads (PBR's) also.. 25 minutes a side.
 No noise, great feel
I have Dan Block's on my 850. Stop great but squeals like a frikin Checker Cab

I got Brembo's from alloemvolvoparts.com for 45.00ea and free shipping. Just put them on this morning
with PBR Metal Master pads also from the same outfit. I think Brembo's are OEM but I'm not sure.

Just put Brembo Rotors and PBR pads on my 97 850R from a company named IPD in Portland OR. They
ship super fast and the whole thing cost me $230. It feels great and no squeel or brake dust...Also dont
forget the anti squeel grease they have for like $5 or so.

If you haven't bought rotors yet, check out this website http://www.newandusedvolvoparts.com On the
opening page they have great sale offers. Currently they offer a front brake pad and rotor package
(complete set, 2 rotors and pad set) for $145 USD. It includes Zimmerman cross drilled rotors (German
made) and Mintex Pads (English made). I put the front set on two weeks ago and they are great. They also
offer the same package for the rear for $115 USD. The prices are far better then IPD.
