Drawing One Syllabus

Mr. Chris Heckman

Prerequisite:  Art Foundations

Recovery Fee:  $20.00

Course Outline

This class is the first in a series of classes designed to develop skills in drawing. Students will practice transforming three-dimensional imagery into two-dimensional planes with the use of various techniques and materials. Lessons will focus on the development of direct observation.

In order to facilitate the seeing process involved in drawing, the student will be required to have a basic understanding of art vocabulary germane to drawing, take tests and quizzes, and be involved in class critiques.

In this upper level class we are striving for process experimentation and the development of quality work, composition strength, and conceptual themes.

Fees:  A twenty dollar recovery fee will cover all required materials needed for this class, including a journal. Students who have not paid their fees by January 12th will be rescheduled.

Objectives

Students will show an understanding of the elements and principles of art through the processes of drawing and the images created. They will create a greater understanding of the aesthetics of art through process development and art criticism.

Sketchbook/Journal

Each skill that is presented in class will be supported with visual and/or written journal entries. It is the students’ responsibility to keep track of journal assignments. Assignments will be posted in class and on the Ozart web site. Each outside drawing assignment will require at least thirty minutes of drawing time to be acceptable, (a passing grade). Journals will be evaluated each Quarter.

Grading Procedures

It is important to remember that nearly 60 percent of the student’s grade comes due at the end of the semester. Grades are comprised of accumulated points from the following areas:

Work Ethic, (20% of grade), which includes time on task, maintenance, safety,

and class contribution, will be recorded in the grade book a minimum of every

five class days.

Journal/Practice, (40% of grade), will be graded at the end of each quarter.

Portfolio, (40% of grade), consisting of six of the student’s strongest images. Also included are all additional work outside of the journal. The portfolio will be graded at the end of the semester.
