Christmas in Scandinavia

Only Christmas (Jul) carries more significance in Scandinavia than the midsummer celebrations. The Christmas season starts December 13th, in Sweden, St. Lucia Day, the celebration of lights. December is a very dark month in Scandinavia, and there are lights everywhere. There are too many Christmas traditions in Scandinavia to be listed here. Let it be said, that it is a very busy season, loaded with traditions. OSSSM has an annual Jul Bord (literally, Christmas Table), where the Smrgsbord is loaded with traditional Scandinavian foods. There is a Lucia Festival. There are special celebrations around the Christmas tree before, during, and after it is decorated. Our members perform various Scandinavian dances, and we sing traditional Christmas songs including some in the languages of Scandinavia.
