| I was born in Norman, Oklahoma and spent my formative years consuming the adventures of John Carter Warlord of Mars, Conan the Cimmerian, and the journeys of hobbits through Middle Earth. I moved on to Robert A. Heinlein and Roger Zelazny. I was hooked for life on the type of Sci-fi and fantasy that emphasized unrestrained adventure and the unbound human spirit. I was doomed. I began to write and haven't stopped writing. My love of those classic stories has always flavored my writing and has cursed me with the affliction of wanting to write entertaining fiction rather than the boring tripe we see published so often these days. I was orphaned at an early age, and used my fiction as an escape from the harsh reality of my situation. Surviving foster homes and shelters, group homes, poverty and the bureaucracy of state custody gave me certain strengths that have helped forge the person I finally became. Sometimes the events of my life create deep currents in my work, but usually it creates humor and fun because, after all, mirth is born of misery. I describe myself as a "Bubba Writer". I tell stories from the perspectives and sensibilites of he common man. I despise elitism and ego. If you can't take a joke or laugh at yourself a bit then I have no use for you, and you will have no use for my fiction. I welcome you to sit down with a beer and explore some of my personal style of sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Bill D. Allen |
