| You sit down into an oyster shaped car with three other thrill seekers. The lids close shut, safely and securely holding you in from the waist down. The sound of a rushing tide is heard, and the car darts forward. As you blaze forward at well over one-hundred-miles per hour your vision becomes tunnel-like. All else is blurred by the speed. Your yells of excitement are ripped from your throat as you whip through twists, turns, dives, and four loop-the-loops. In less than five minutes, the ride is over, you step exhausted from the ride, your face numb from terrific speeds of the ride. As you are leaving to go explore the rest of beautiful Oysterland, you pass under a sign saying, "RED TIDE RACERS". With a huge grin on your face you nod to the eager people in line as you leave, for you have just experienced one of Oysterland's greatest rides. Red Tide Racers is the classic Oysterland ride. Ever since Mayor Hinkle christened it on the opening day of Oysterland, thousands have flocked to ride the Washington State's best roller coaster. Red Tide Racers has been ranked a class 5 ride by the National Rides and Amusement Park Association (NRAPA). This ranking system considers the size, speed, and degree of drops and climbs, turns, and loops of the ride. A class 1 ride is commonly referred to as a kiddie-coaster. This ride has very small rises and falls, and must not exceed fifteen miles per-hour. The classes are rated so that each class is generally 1.5 times beyond the previous class. This means that a class five ride is about 7.6 times faster and steeper than a kiddie-coaster. Because it travels almost 114 miles-per-hour, and has some of the steepest drops of all class 5 coasters in the world, Red Tide Racers has won awards, fans, and the affection of the North-West. Unlike the Seagull Drop, Red Tide Racers never had design problems, and has not had a single problem in its entire career. From the drawing board to service the ride has been a major success. We hope you enjoyed learning about this ride. Feel free to explore the rest of our site. |
