Treatment and Prevention

                                                  Ebola Virus

Treatment

The future looks bleak for victims suffering from the ebola virus.

-There are no current treatments or vaccine for this virus.  Researchers are still working on a vaccine that could help with victims.
-Antiviral drugs such as ribavirin may decrease the course of the disease and help prevent complications.  -Patients need intensive supportive therapy including:
  • Balancing the fluids and electrolytes is needed to help with providing nutrients the patient's cells.
  • Maintaining oxygen and pressure and if necessary using the aid of a mechanical ventilator.
-Since their are no current vaccines, the best treatment is prevention.
