How to get involved

This page serves as a source of information for people who want to get involved with the OARC project, or with UK disabled rowing in general.

Want to join OARC?

Anyone can join OARC, whether or not they have a disability, but we have most to offer to disabled people. If you would like to join the club as a disabled or non-disabled athlete then please e-mail Rachel Oliver for an application form. Disabled athletes will be asked to have an initial assessment* before starting rowing for safety reasons. Rachel will be able to organise this, when she has your membership form.

* Initial assessment is just a fancy way of saying that the club organisers need to have a chat with you and figure out your requirements. We don't just throw people in boats willy nilly!

Want to help?

There are lots of ways you can help out with OARC - coaching, fundraising, administration, publicity etc etc. If you would like to help or you have any useful suggestions please e-mail Rachel Oliver You don't have to commit yourself to giving a lot of time, and if you're aged between 16 and 25 you can join the national Millenium Volunteers scheme and get recognition for your voluntary work.

Want to get involved with adaptive rowing in another part of the country (or even another part of the world)?

Adaptive rowing is a sport that is growing all the time. OARC is in touch with lots of other local clubs, but if you want to find out more about what's going on at a national or international level, then contact Helen Foord who is the Chair of Open Adaptive Rowing, a national organisation which aims to promote and facilitate adaptive rowing across the UK, and also to help build the sport internationally.
