How to get involved

Welcome Freshers!

This is the Freshers' page - for OU and OBU freshers who want to get involved with OARC

Fresher's event!

Welcome to Oxford! There is an event on Sunday 20th October for all OARC coaches but particularly new coaches. There is a breakfast at the Morris Room at Exeter College at 10am on the 20th October 2002, followed by a free lift down to the river. If you cant make it and you are keen to get involved please contact us, or if you just want to know more please contact.Rachel Oliver

Freshers' FAQ

Do I need to know how to row to come to OARC?

You don't need to know how to row - although it's great if you can. We provide rowing and sculling training, and also training on things like water safety, first aid, disability awareness and so on. Basically, anything you need to know, we will tell you!

How much time do I have to commit?

You can commit as much or as little time as you like. If you only come once every blue moon, that's fine. We'll be pleased to see you!

Will this look good on my CV?

All voluntary work looks great on your CV! If you really get involved you can also join the national Millenium Volunteers scheme and get an award. We also fund a limited number of people each year to take ARA coaching awards - which are equivalent to doing an NVQ, and extremely well respected.

I don't want to row. Can I still help out?

There are lots of ways you can help out with OARC - fundraising, administration, publicity etc etc. If you would like to help in this way or you have any useful suggestions please e-mail Rachel Oliver

Will I have to get up really early?

Absolutely not!! Sessions are 11am til 1pm on a Sunday morning. We are a very relaxed club and don't believe in 6am outings.
