Valentine's Dance
Billy Raven
I popped in for a while, well, the Penshire forum was down for 'maintenance' so we couldn't get in for a while. I decided to head off to the dance and check it out. I had fun talking with some Ravenclaw, Gryffindors, a Hufflepuff, and a few house mates. We did our impressions of Professor Snape, using that 'eye-brow' smilie and talked about having an HOH and AHOH exchange for a few days thing. Everyone agreed that it might be fun but some were reluctant to have one professor visit, I won't mention his name. However, many thought it might be fun to have some change-up for a few days, anyway, but not forever cause we want out mom here and are loving having Professor Kat.
Musical Chairs
Billy Raven
While at the Valentine's Dance a discussion about Assistant Heads of House came up and Keato and I were laughing because we had gone through three already and was on our fourth one! Some houses have had two and we aren't sure if any have the record for AHOH swooping out. Listing them, we've had, Professor Simbi, Professor Delia, Professor Lunar, and now Professor Kat. If we keep this up, we will have had every professor there is here. But we like the one we have now and hope she stays and that she continues to be active, not that is why we lost the other ones, they were just needed elsewhere...or that is at least what we've been told. We like to think maybe we are the training ground for great AHOHs!
Professor Snape's Philharmonic Orchestra
Emma Bagman
Throughout the Valentine's Dance, we discovered that Hogwarts is home to many talented musicians. Professor Snape just happened to be at the dance when the discussion of music popped up, and the dance was taken over by musicians of all sorts. After learning of our menagerie of performers, an idea was proposed to start a Philharmonic Orchestra at Hogwarts, and since Professor Snape was our man in charge present, it was named after him.
The orchestra has already started, so if you're a musician - we discussed instrumentalists - keep an eye out for the magic door, especially those who was present at the time of the discussion.
The Hogwarts Curse No, Its Not DADA!
By Tyler Keegan
There used to be some speculation that the DADA position at Hogwarts was cursed because there would be a new teacher assigned to it each year. Although this myth has proven to be false, there is a position at Hogwarts that really does seem to be cursed, but its not DADA. Has anyone other than me noticed that Paddington cant seem to keep an active AHOH around for more than a week if that? Paddington was created around May of 2008. Since that time weve had 4 different AHOHs assigned to our house, none of which do much once arriving there other than say hi to all of us & then vanish. The most active AHOH we had was Prof. Haddington who was our first & actually did do slightly more than just say hello to us, but for the most part you didnt see much of her. Then, after a few months of inactivity on her part, we got a new AHOH, Prof. Montgomery. She introduced herself to us & that was the last anyone ever saw of her. Months went by without any word
from her & she, too, mysteriously disappeared (although she is now the AHOH in Penshire). She was finally replaced by Prof. Morgan who did exactly the same. She introduced herself, started a game, & poof, she was gone. She, too, has since taking another AHOH position, hers being in Slytherin. She was replaced by Prof. Lunar who prior to being assigned to our house was an active AHOH in Penshire. Since shes arrived, though, she also has gone MIA. I wont be surprised if in about a month or so were being told she, too, has went to another house & we have yet another new AHOH to greet. Why is it Paddington cant keep an AHOH around that does more than wave when they first get there? Are we that despicable to deal with that we send them all screaming into the night? Being a Paddington student myself, I know were all really cool so I cant figure out what is so unlikable about us that they cant stand being around us, but will gladly to work
in some other house. Ive just chosen to believe that were just too amazing for them all & they know theyre not worthy. I wonder who well get next

Hufflepuff has a crazy professor
he's blonde and smiles a lot
sometimes he steals beds
and gets them wet and they rot

We usually call him uncle
But lately we're not.
Who likes their bed stolen?
To get wet? to rot?

I can honestly tell you
Its no fun sleeping on the floor
It gets cold a lot in the winter
And I dont want to do it anymore

And what's worse about it
is the absence of sheets.
Did he have to take them too?
Might as well be on the streets!

And oh for a comforter
I miss it so much
So big and warm
And soft to the touch

I dream of it often
Snuggling in,
Perhaps snoring,
as I lay on my twin.

At least I have my pillow
Even if it's not much
If the Professor keeps this up
I bet he gets hated on a bunch

So now we'll go creeping
and searching for our beds
and get Lockhart back later.
Once we've cleared our heads.
Backpacking: Food Tips
- Gawyn Crossguard
There are a few tips regarding food that should be taken into account when camping or backpacking.
- Don't bring perishable items on the trail you can't finish on the first day. Food spoils easily in heat, and unless you're car camping, and you've got ice in a cooler, you're just begging tent. The scent sticks to the walls, and attracts unwanted visitors such as raccoons and bears.
- Don't ever store food in your tent for the same reason you don't want to eat in your tent.
- Keep your food in the stuff sack that contained your sleeping bag coming in. Tie a rope around the drawstring opening. Throw the other end of the rope over a high, sturdy branch, and as far from the trunk as you can get, and still have the branch withstand the weight of the food. Hoist the food into the air, leaving it lower than the branch so unwanted critters will be unable to rip open the stuff sack.
- Make sure your food is cooked through, and that you don't cook your food in water that hasn't been boiled for at least 10 minutes. Bad microbes are not something you want to have to battle while camping.
Fact or Fiction?
By Tyler Keegan
Its sad that so many people gossip & spread rumors about other people instead of doing other things with their time. Sometimes the rumors & gossip you hear about someone really sounds like it could be true. Buthow do you figure out whether something someone is telling you is the truth or a lie? Its easy to get caught up in stories you hear. Were all gullible to a point by nature anyway. But knowing which stories to believe & which stories to dismiss can get tricky. You could just swear off anyone that tries to tell you stories about other people all together, but youll find that no one will ever talk to you if you do that. You may not think thats a bad thing, but after awhile youll get pretty lonely if you dont have anyone to talk to anymore. So, if you have to hear rumors & gossip, keep these tips in mind to help you decipher fact from fiction.

If someone says they wanna tell you a something but youre not allowed to tell anyone else & this something isnt about them, chances are its a lie. If someone tells you something about someone else & you ask how they found out, dont believe it if it was from anyone other than the person theyre talking about. If someone tells you something another person did to someone else & they found out from the person it was done to, dont believe it. More than likely its just a case of someone being mad at someone else & fabricating a story to make their friends feel sorry for them.

The best way to always know the truth about things so you dont get caught up in nothing more than a web of lies is to just believe what people say about themselves & dismiss anything they say about someone else. If you do hear something about someone else, though, & youd like to know if its true or not, just ask the person its about if its true instead of running around to your friends & telling them what you heard to see what they know. At least that way youll know first hand if its fact or fiction & you can stop the cycle of rumors & gossip before it gets really out of control.
Quidditch:
So begins the Slytherin/Hufflepuff match. Some bets have been made I hope. HUFFLEPUFF WITH KICK SOME BOOTIE!!!! The match will begin soon. Hufflepuff does not have a good look on things, we are missing a Beater on the full roster, the match starts today, and only 2 Chasers and a Beater are on the pitch! The team is working out the whole roster. Now come to the match, sit down with some popcorn, and watch some bum kickin!
The Crane Train

February brought some new members to the house of Penshire!
Weve had some slow going lately, but the introduction of a few
new members (and a nice posting war) has made the common room
a little more lively the past few days! We welcomed Tza Marie at the
beginning of the monthwelcome Tza! Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to our Assistant Head of House, Professor Lunar, but we welcomed a new one, Professor Kat! Welcome to Penshire Professor! And now, just within the past few days weve had two more new students, Keywon Brownlow and Tyson Araya! Welcome, Keywon and Ty! Tyson is already posting around the CR, so hooray for him! Welcome all new members we are super-glad to have you in Penshire!
Penshire's Secret Valentine's Exchange
Billy Raven
As usual, Penshire doesn't let a month go by without a few house activities. This time we had a Secret Valentine's Gift Exchange where you signed up and were then given two names and were to get Valentine's for and put them in their lockers. The gifts had to be flowers, candy, or an original poem. It was a huge success with the locker area being as busy as our game area. I even snuck down there and read some locker threads to see who had who and what they got. Every did a great job, even Professor Ripley and Professor Kat got into the exchange and even opened lockers for the occasion. They didn't get each other, either, they got students and some students got them. All and all it was a lot of fun and I think everyone enjoyed it, I know I did, with loads of flowers and candy, which I am sure everyone will share, lol, and even a few poems.
Penshire's Game Days!
Billy Raven
The house staff announced a two-day game days, you didn't need to sign-up just show up and play the games. There wasn't like a post-count prior it was just a fun thing to do, so no competition here. I will say some students, big gamers anyway, were going crazy playing and others who hadn't been in the games in a while, got into the fun. We even came up with four new games and they are still going. Sam posted one, Professor mom one, and I came up with two, and they are all still going strong. So, if you want to have a bit of house fun, having 'game' days is one way to tease, laugh, build friendships, and create some unity in your house. We certainly did that!

Hufflepuff Happenings
The student's in Hufflepuff house are beginning to start a HUGE sleepover in the HCR. So far students Teagan Kincade and John Chang are planning to go out after dark and buy Butterbeer and candy! John Ching Chang is a vampire so he is planning to go get some. Prefects have not yet been on the scene of planning. Please don't let us get caught!
Though Gryffindor sent in some poems and a frontpage article, nothing was sent regarding the 'house' itself.
Learning to Fly High and Breathe Deep
By Isabella Talis
Going to a new school is always awful. No matter what the previous
one was like, you will be nervous about whether youll fit in, whether t
hey will like you. And it doesnt just apply to schools. Im sure many people
have, on their way to sign up for the Duelling Club felt a horribly familiar pull at
their stomach. I know when I signed up for the Writing Club, I wondered if Id be
accepted, and what the others would think of my writing.
When entering the Ravenclaw Common Room I was combined with a wonderful sensation of feeling at home and an unsure worrying of whether Id fit in. But this article isnt about me. Im writing to acknowledge the wonderful way the Ravens welcome the new students.
Immediately Prefects were welcoming me and offering advice, showing me all the great activities Hogwarts has to offer. I was astonished to have even the Professors were saying hello to me. And best of all, students who didnt even have the responsibility to talk to me were walking over and shaking my hand.
I immediately saw why this House is so proud and I know how lucky I am to have been sorted into it. Any student who is fortunate enough to join the Ravens will find it welcoming, warm and fun.
They certainly wont be worried about not being in certain groups or clicks of friends or feeling like an outsider. This is a credit to every single Ravenclaw.
On a personal note, Id like to thank Will Potter for giving me a map of Hogwarts that has been invaluable and to Professor Legolas for showing me the Games Room.
As to all you other Ravens, thanks for the welcome and I cant wait to get to know you better.
