The Owl Gazette                                    June 2008            Issue 55            C
The Lion Welcome Wagon
By Fiona Chauvet

New students are always entering through the Fat Lady's portrait, and into the Gryffindor common room. Since the last issue of the Gazette we were happy to welcome another batch of new students. Rosetta Taylor joined the Lion's Den, as well as James and Neash! Gryffindor was lucky enough to welcome back three old members whom we haven't seen in awhile too. Shannon Wood returned, and so did Luna Felton and Will Sutton. Welcome back to Gryffindor, guys, and another big welcome to all the new students. We hope you'll stay with the Lions for a long time.
Long Time No See Updates
By Roxanne Whitez

So it's been a while since this House Reporter has even written any updates for the Gazette, let along any articles at all. But here it is and here it goes; Gryffindor's top ten posters! If I recall correctly, this update hasn't been well, updated for several months, if not an entire year. Leah Black, fellow ex-Prefect and now Prefect Assistant stands first with over a whooping 30,000 posts. Senior Prefect, Kristin Johnson, is second with a bit over 21,000 posts, followed closely by our lovely Head of House, Professor Opal, just an easy four hundred points behind. Our second Prefect Assistant is Gawyn Crossguard, at fourth with 66 posts over 16,000 posts. Wonder why I never put the exact post numbers? I'm just making you readers think. Hermy_own, and her partner Fred (hint: :hyper:) are fifth, almost reaching 13,000 posts and yours truly stands at sixth, with 11,504 posts. There d: Megan Miller, Prefect, reaches exactly 10,900 posts at seventh place, with chocolate-addict Kalie Black at eighth with around 9,500 posts. Finally, Audrea Martin, our recent ex-Senior Prefect stays steady with over 7,500 posts and last but not least, Gryffindor's frenzy writer, Hilary Stevens catches tenth place with 5,724-ish posts. Just because all of these updates will change by the time this article gets printed. Until the next unexpected update, out.
Lion Birthdays
By Fiona Chauvet

Birthdays are a fun event, and the month of May was host to quite a few in the Gryffindor common room. In the beginning of the month Luna Felton celebrated hers on the 3rd. One of our veteran members, Felicity Hedwig had hers on the 6th, and Rose Wick had hers only two days later on the 8th! Kalie Black celebrated hers on the 19th, and Leah Black ended the month with her birthday on the 23rd! Big birthday wishes to all the students! We hope you had amazing birthdays!
Welcome to PAD's Paddington!!
By Yaxley Chambers

Hello Pad's Hogwarts!! This is Yaxley Chambers, then new Prefect of the great new house that is Paddington!! After months of discussion with the staff and a few student contests, Paddington has officially been made into an up and running house!! While we are yet to enter our true home with our commonrooms and dorms, we have been meeting regularly to discuss the future of the newest house at Hogwarts!! Some of our members include transfers, like Rose Wick, Jow Nworb, Evelyn Fueture, Kaitlin Sawyer, and others, while some brand new characters have joined the unstoppable team like myself, Brady Lennox, Sam Davis, Damien Spikes, Diana Tuley, Joanna, and plenty more with, we hope, even more to come! We are all under the wise leadership of Professors Riddle and Haddington, a great team with some REAL chemistry! We even have a third Professor in our house under an MP who shall remain nameless for his/her protection! With three Professor's, a staff team in the making, and a house full of eager and ready students, I won't be surprised to see the name 'Paddington' on the Cup in June 2009! Watch out Penshire, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin, Paddington is the new kid on the block and we're ready to dominate!
Penshires Final Point-a-Thon
By Bry Casten

With the end of term drawing ever-nearer and the desire to win the House Cup growing ever-stronger, Penshire held one final Point-a-thon, encouraging members to do everything they could to earn points and overcome Ravenclaw for the House Cup.  The dates were set wellthe thon coincided with both the OG deadline, the WD deadline, and the Writing/Poetry Club double points day! Students participated fiercely, writing Owl Gazette and Wizards Diegest articles, doing the monthly challenges, submitting entries to clubs, and finishing lessons.  In the end Samuel, Bryony, and Sapphire were our top three placers.  Great job to everyone who participated!
Staff Change in Penshire!
By Ava Black

Professor Simbi was our original Assistant Head of House he has however moved over to Ravenclaw.  We were lucky to receive a new AHOH Professor Delia Macintosh!  She has been at the school for many years and teaches History of Magic.  We are delighted to welcome her to our common room!
Professor Delia Joins Penshire
By Moaning Myrtle

While Penshire says goodbye to Professor Simbi, we also say hello to Professor Delia!  Professor Delia Macintosh has been professor of History of Magic for quite some time now, is the Student Council advisor, and heads up the Summer Club every summer when classes close.  We at Penshire are glad to have her in our house and give her a warm Shireling welcome!
Point-A-Holics
By Sapphire Lyze

Penshires are doing everything in their power to earn points.  Poetry, stories, diary entries, siggies, drawings, articles, you name it and well have sent in a ton!  To underestimate Penshire at this point would be a foolish thing to do.  House Cup, here we come!
Name the Crane: We Have a Winner!
By Bryony Casten

Last month Billy wrote an article about our Penshire contest to Name the Crane because, of course, we couldnt have our mascot going nameless!  And a history!  He needed to know where he came from, otherwise he would be nothing more than a lost, fumbling, nameless bird.  But the Penshire students fixed that right well!  Our mascots name is now Magnus Crane, and he was found by Pandora Penshire long ago at the beginning of Hogwarts history.  It was great to finally pick a winner and know for sure where our mascot came from!
Name the Crane Contest Results
By Sapphire Lyze

Name the Crane contest results are in!  Penshire recently held a 'Name the Crane' inter-house competition to decide what to name our beloved crane mascot.  The choices were: Caedmon, Phillip, Magnus, Penelope, and Quiddy.  Magnus was the big winner!  Sapphire Lyze was the student who entered the name in the competition.  From now on, the Penshire's crane will be known as Magnus.
Ravenclaw vs. Penshire
By Wild Leek

The battle between Ravenclaw and Penshire drags on.  Each house is working overtime to bring in the bacon for their home team.  It seems that the houses are both sending in countless OG articles.  Other than that, Penshire and Ravenclaw have very different methods of earning points.  It appears that Penshire has taken a greater advantage of Double Points Day than Ravenclaw, but who knows what else they might have up their sleeves!  This is a close race and a total nail-biter!
Penshires Point-War
By Moaning Myrtle

Penshire has been hard at work earning all the points they possibly can!  This week we had our final Point-War of the year, encouraging all students (& ghosts too!) in Penshire House to earn as many points as they could stand.  All students rose to the challenge, and overall the war was a great success!  Well done everyone who participated.
The Crane Train
By Bryony Casten

The month of May was a bit slow for Penshire in terms of new arrivalswe welcomed only two new members to our common room.  That it not to say, however, that those member are in any way insignificantfor that train of thought would be wrong by every stretch of the imagination!  No, both Xenon Trigg and Adrianna Lunar have jumped into Penshire life with a gusto and are very quickly become a part of the family.  Welcome, Xenon and Adrianna, to Hogwarts and Penshire house!
The Post War
By Riley Jake

From April twenty-seventh till May fourth, the entire house of Slytherin spent their time in the common room making as many posts as they possibly could. Penshire house had challenged the Slytherins to a Inner-House posting war, and there was no way that any of the snakes were going to turn down a good challenge. So, the house was divided into two teams, the Silver Serpents and the Sly Snakes. Professor Bliss led the Silver Serpents, and Professor Snape, the Sly Snakes, as each team tried to beat both the opposing house and the opposing inner-house team. The results returned, and Penshire house was victorious, as were the Sly Snakes. In the end, it was a very fun activity that I'm sure everyone in both houses enjoyed taking part in.
Slytherin Scoop
By Beonca Aims

We've seen some new students and some return, but are looking forward to the summer because we always see an influx of newbie come those months as students are looking for things to do. Once we get them in the house and smother them with Slytherin family pride, they will surely stick around. Especially after the receivership of the Slytherin Welcome Intro and the Code of Conduct, always a people pleaser! The snakes have been busy signing up for things they want saved, like locker, dorm and RPG threads and the staff has been volunteering to do this for them. All the rule and guideline threads have been set aside by our upper staff and will be reposted, so you can say we are some real organized snakes. Are you as ready?
Hufflepuff Happenings
By Julia Rose Antea

The Common Room of Hufflepuff has been extremely active lately.  We've had a number of newbies join our fantastic house.  There has been an ongoing party for awhile now.  It's called the Spring Cleaning Bash, and soon there will be voting for whoever brought the wackiest item that they 'found' while spring cleaning.  There is a Posting War going on currently, and it's a total nail-biter.  The HCR has been buzzing with activity that will continue on into the hot summer months!
New & Old Ravenclaws
By Erica Lovegood

We have several new additions to the house of Ravenclaw. Some of these students you may have seen around but they have not been officially welcomed here. So, give nice welcome to the newest ravens: A True Black, Prof. Simbi the new Assistant HoH, Katiline Granger, Isra Happenstance, rosedolphin, Eireann Daire, Shannon, Sibyl Kevins and Sir Hugo Tien the new house ghost. Returning we have Lily Seabrook and Dylan Addams.

Some of our members we sadly have to say goodbye to whether they are leaving or transferring like Lucius Malfoy, Joe Nworb, Emma Staunton, Evelyn Fueture, Porthos Figg, melanie monopoly, and Dawlish Ledgerwood. We are sad to see you go but good luck to whatever you are doing!
Ravenclaw's Points Spree
By Luna Lovegood

Ravenclaw has been working their butts off to get the most points possible. It's the end of the term and we all are determined for us to get the House Cup, Ravenclaw having never won it before. People are posting like crazy to get the extra points for the most posts at the end of term. Everyone in all levels of the house are submitting tons of lessons. If you look around the common room in any area, you could, without even trying to, find many working to write poetry and stories for the double points day in the writing and poetry clubs or working on a new piece of art to submit to the art club to get some more points. From Ravenclaw, we tell everyone in the other Houses 'Good luck, you're going to need it.'
You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello
By Ariene Callahan

Recently Ravenclaw has been bombarded by farewells, and four Ravenclaws have departed our house. We hate to see them go, and we only wish them the best. Some are moving on to better things, others just didn't have the heart to stay. We say goodbye to Porthos Figg, Evelyn Fueture, Dawlish Ledgerwood and Emma Staunton. May you continue on with your story, and always fly high! But with these farewells also come hellos. We'd like to introuduce to Hogwarts the newest members of Ravenclaw house; Sibyl Kevins, Isra Happenstance, Eireann Daire, Rose Dolphin, A_True_Black, Kaitlin Granger.

Up and coming in June shall be Emma Staunton. Happy Birthday to all of you and beware of birthday punches but never gifts!...sometimes *shifty*
April Point-A-Thon in Ravenclaw
By Luna Lovegood

Luna Lovegood here, reporting in the winners of our last Point-a-Thon in Ravenclaw. Not mentioning any numbers, I would like to congratulate Arya on coming in first and earning a great deal of points for our House. In second place was Ariene and for the third place spot, Erica took the ribbon. Those were for the individual spots.
For our team positions, we also got a great deal of points. I feel honored to tell Arya and Summer congrats on coming in first for teams. Congrats also go to Emma and Ariene who also got a great deal of points and were almost at the same level as our first place team.
No Way!
By Arya Drottningu

An unseen event has taken place in the confines of the Ravenclaw Common Room. Luna Lovegood has beaten Summer Levy's post count! Summer has been number one on the Top Ten Posters list for who knows how long and then here comes Luna, whipping past her and claiming number one position. Summer must feel the blow of getting knocked down, and we are all wondering: who will pass her next?
Points and Posting
By Erica Lovegood

The Ravenclaw house has been really active this term! I was able to host the last point-a-thon for this year and it's good to see people participate with in-house activities. So far the past point-a-thons as well as post-a-thons have gone well. Hopefully this would help us to
the cup, but only the hour-glass can tell when the term is truly over. All-in-all, you can not say that we did not try our best.
Go ahead, turn the page!
Go back and re-read page B.
