| Sam the Man!
By Billy Raven Penshire is so lucky to have a Senior Prefect like Samuel Craft! He knows loads of things, is really helpful and makes the best signature banners for not only our Posting Wars, but also for the students in the house. Anyone sporting a Sam banner knows the work he puts into them, and they are quite great looking! Sam, along with the other house staff, really is there for us, and he steps up to the plate every time when things need to get done. So, I just wanted to say, THANKS SAM! If you dont think we notice, we do! If you think we take you for granted, we dont! You are a role model for Penshires! |

| The Quill & the Wand
By Gwen Tatham Which is more mighty, the wand or the quill? Both can maim and both can kill; A wand can conjure but a quill can create, One can change things, but the other change fate. Each can right wrongs, and do wrongs in turn; Both can be cutting, and either can burn. But a word, once read, is in the heart curled And there's no spell yet written can reach 'round the world Or over millennia still work now as then So the wand yields to quill, as the sword yields to pen |

| Autumn/September Poems
By a Lioness The breezes taste Of apple peel. The air is full Of smells to feel- Ripe fruit, old footballs, Burning brush, New books, erasers, Chalk, and such. The bee, his hive, Well-honeyed hum, And Mother cuts Chrysanthemums. Like plates washed clean With suds, the days Are polished with A morning haze. - September, John Updike 'Tis the last rose of summer, Left blooming alone; All her lovely companions Are faded and gone. - Thomas Moore, The Last Rose of Summer, 1830 By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer's best of weather And autumn's best of cheer. - Helen Hunt Jackson, September, 1830-1885 All poems taken from http://www.egreenway.com/months/monsep.htm |

| RPGs Abound!
By Billy Raven Well Penshire certainly is going great guns with our RPG areas. Besides the Alternate World, we have some sitting about the common room, shopping in Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley. What I like about RPGing is the opportunity to play in the fantasy world and get to know my housemates better; it is a great way to develop your character too. You may even discover some interesting things about the castle, even hidden dungeons or port keys. If you took the time, you could never be bored in the common room because of the RPGs. I like joining those that have been started, usually by newer students, its a great way to get them posting and making new friends. Course you dont want to be in too many, then you lose your place or have a hard time getting to them all if you have limited time on the computer, especially with Muggle school starting. But, you should try to be in at least two! Trust me, it is just so much fun and a chance to be creative! |

| Interview with Arya
By Cho Chang Dear Readers, I'm going to introduce to you a new Ravenclaw student who accepted to do the interview. May I present to you Arya! The Ravenclaw Elf! 1. How are you doing first of all, Arya? I am mighty fine, thank you. 2. When did you exactly join Hogwarts? I joined on a lovely day named July 2nd, 2007 3. How did you feel when you were sorted into Ravenclaw? Were you expecting yourself to be sorted in this House or did you prefer another different House at that time? I actually yelled in joy, I was so happy. As you can probably tell, I had really wanted to be sorted into Ravenclaw. 4. How did you find the other Ravenclaws? Did we greet you well? The other Ravenclaws were very welcoming when I came into the lovely Ravenclaw Common Room, and I feel that I fit right in with them. 5. What do you think is most fascinating in PADs Hogwarts? I think I love PAD's the most for its classes and different forums for different things. I could probably list a whole bunch of things, but that might take a whole half hour to say :D 6. Are you ready for the Start-of-Term Feast and then the classes? Yes, I am sooooo ready for those. I just can't wait! I love classes and food, so it fits to my personality. :D 7. As you know, we Ravenclaws are all working so hard together as a House to make sure that we get the House Cup in our Head of House's Office in the end of the scholastic term in 2008. What would you comment about this? I think we can do it. If we all work together, and keep up what we've been doing, I think we can pull it off. 8. Now on a personal note, how would you describe yourself as a person? Just to give some brief description of our Arya to the students from other Houses who haven't met her yet! Well, I'd have to say that I can be a little crazy at times, and I LOVE food! I also love classes, and for those who don't know, I am an elf. 9. Now this is a bit of a difficult question ... What is the thing that you most don't like in here? Ooohh...that is hard. Ummm...I'd have to say that the thing I don't like the most is...ummm...is the flood control in the forums, especially when I'm playing games. :D I would like to take this opportunity to thank Arya for taking her time to answer my questions. Hope this interview helps you to get to know Arya a little bit more ^_^ |

| Keyboard Slam
By Arya Drottningu Keyboard Slam is a new game in the RCR that Ariene Callahan brought to us. It has been fun, and funny. This is how the game goes, in Ari's words: "The object of this game is to take your hand, or head, and place it on your keyboard, pressing firmly upon it. The result, an interesting combination of letters, numbers, and characters. Then you attempt to make sense of it." Now to let you readers enjoy the fun, I have put some of the creations here: uj yb,rvf ummm, I have no idea yu 677 ummm...it could mean that your number is 677... b,7 Mine's apparently a bingo number y4 You know that would be a bingo number if y was actually b fr m. from. without the o... dwu384 er...um...I don't know itd i ngti.gtd ...it...ding...tig...today? rftbyu right...left 6! | Book Review; The Kite Runner
By Amanda I hesitated to read this book for quite a while. The last novel that got both critical and popular acclaim comparable to the "Kite Runner" was "Cold Mountain" which I absolutely disliked. In fact, I disliked "Cold Mountain" as much as I loved this book. Many other reviews have talked in depth about the plot and characters in this book and there is not much for me to add there. A few thoughts that I had on how this book affected me. As one review said, this book did not read like a novel but rather a memoir. Many of the themes were universal in nature -- the nature of friendship in spite of cultural differences and the tension in a father/son relationship. However, the beauty of Hosseini's book is threefold: (1) his writing style is wonderfully simple but emotionally evocative, (2) brings culture, people and place closer to people, most of whom have only recently paid attention to post 9/11 and (3) this is his first novel. This book left both powerful scars and wonderful memories with me. I don't regret the former and cherish the latter. The scars help remind us of the obstacles, challenges and trauma that individuals half a world away have gone through and continue to suffer through. They also have a universality with things that many of us have encountered in our own lives in a different way. Ultimately, I cherish novels that affect me on both an emotional and rational level. This book does both in an exceptional way and is a novel not to be missed. |

| Interview With A Newbie - Sam Lupin's edition
By Arya Drottningu and Sam Lupin Arya Drottningu: You're a new student to Ravenclaw. Who do you think has helped you most of all throughout getting more information on how to do things? Sam Lupin: Well, for one, Myrrima has been a great mentor and has answered a bunch of my questions. Summer Levy's post with all of the links in my introduction thread helped a lot too. AD: What do you enjoy doing most of all in the Common Room? SL: I most enjoy playing the Character Game, because it has taught me a lot about my character that I hadn't known before! XP It's a really good way to develop your character. AD: Have you made any new friends? SL: I would like to think I have made friends. :D Melanie Monopoly invited me on a trip, and Luna Lovegood, Arya Drottningu, Erica Lovegood, Jacyn Corbin, and others have been a lot of fun in the Games forum. AD: What is your favorite game? SL: My favorite game (other than the Character Game) is probably Spam-a-lot, because you can be completely random and get a ton of posts, or have a decent conversation. :) AD: How do like PAD's overall, so far? SL: PAD's has been great so far, and I can't wait to be here for a while. AD: Do you have any other comments that you would like to add? SL: I would like to thank all of the above mentioned people for helping me settle in, as well as the rest of the Ravens for being SO COMPLETELY AWESOME! AD: Thank you for spending your time to talk to me, Sam. |
