| Those Who Are Different
By Fiona Chauvet Taking a look around my house, I couldn't help but notice the various number of people who are slightly different then the rest of the school. By this I mean those who are not simply a witch or a wizard. I'm talking about the kids with the pointy ears, the ones with the sharp fangs and the people who just aren't normal. Don't get me wrong. I find these people to be very interesting! Because of this I decided to interview some of the students in my house who shared these unique qualities. I wanted to get their point of view on what it's like to be different. "I usually only tell those I feel comfortable around, so yeah, it's not that difficult," Gawyn Crossguard, the half-Elven, pointed out. "plus my slightly pointed ears are a dead giveaway." When I asked what most peoples' reactions were when they found out, Hilary Stevens, the half-Vampire, told me, "Most people took it really well, which I wasn't expecting. I thought everyone would totally freak out! So I was pretty glad when everyone accepted it." Roxanne Whitez, the half-Vampire/half-Elven added about her experiences, "They usually peered at me oddly, but I think the fact that I'm only half-Vampire reassures them a bit. But I don't seek blood in fact." Kallara Silme, the Eletian/Elven added that many people were surprised, yet "some were in awe" at seeing someone like her. Even though these students braved the stares from their schoolmates, they all had their share of advantages. Gawyn noted the enhanced hearing and sight that comes with being Elven, while Roxanne enjoyed the "speed of an Elf and the subtlety of a vampire." Hilary admitted a fun advantage as well; "I suppose there is the fact that I can scare the heck out of some people!" Kallara enjoys being able to use a different form of magic too. There are some disadvantages that go with being different. Hilary admitted, "Strong light makes me cranky. Not normal light, just the strong, blinding light." Gawyn found while his longer lifespan was an advantage, he saw it as a disadvantage as well. "Yes, one being the princess...there is always danger befalling me, where ever I turn," Kallara admitted. There you have it. Each person seems to find the good and the bad in being different, while I still continue to find them fun and fascinating regardless. I hope everyone does as well. |

| Couples Update
by Megan Miller Well, it seems that February really wasn't the season for love afterall as it passes by before this reporter's eyes. No new Gryffindor's seem to have paired up recently so the only couple we basically have in our beloved house are Roxanne Whitez and Gawyn Crossguard. There also seem to be rising suspisions that Kallara Hithwen Silme and Vicktor Krum are becoming a couple as many people have seen them hanging around together amidst the dark trees in the Forbidden Forest and embarking on countless adventures together, mostly alone, but others have gone along on rare ocassion. That's about all this reporter has found out for now, hopefully more to come next issue! |

| "Hufflepuff Happenings"
By Katlin Sawyer Although not many people are posting much in the CR right now, we badgers have been busy trying to stock up on points as much as possible! From February 7th through the 25th, we held a Badger Points Brawl to encourage all Huffies to earn as many points as possible. The competition is fierce, but in the end the outcome will be the same - Huffies' hourglass will beef up considerably! To Puffins!! Badgers are also pulling together this month to create a "Transfiguration Today" house magazine staff which was severely lacking before. Where only one or two people worked on the house mag previously, now there is a team of people who share duties so that publication will be smoother & more people will be involved. February is the first month the team will work on the mag together & I'm sure they'll do a bang-up job! The game of the month for February is "The Banned Game"! All the badgers like this game, especially Adrianna La Cerva! It's fun to ban your housemates for silly reasons like because you have it done it yet that day, because they have red hair, or because they are eating chocolate & not sharing any with you. LOL! Hufflepuff would like to welcome its newest members Adrianna, Lily, & Christina, & welcome back Mariah who's been absent far too long! |

| Penshire has been doing fantastically not only by house points, but by Quidditch and posting. From the 12th-19th of this month, the crafty cranes held one of their annual Posting Wars- a team one. The Red Roses battled against the Blue Violets in which both teams consisted of 5 Penshires. Overall, the Red Roses claimed victory with only a 600ish post count lead. The score was neck and neck throughout the week, though the team dressed in red managed to pull ahead at the last minute. Though, the house itself benefited from this Posting War as with this contest, 5,000 more posts were added to the overall count.
Now, it's time to welcome some of our new members of the house. Yozorrah Torreli, Saphira, Erin Collins, and Andromeda Tonks-Black are the four new cranes to our lovely house, all of which have introduced themselves and have begun receiving the warm welcomes from our houses' members. Finally, word just came in that the Crafty Cranes defeated the Buggy Beavers in the latest Qudditch match. The score was 60-40 Penshire until at the last minute where Deirdre Torrey caught the devilish golden snitch. Both teams played well and this was definitely a match to remember. Currently the Crafty Cranes are undefeatable, and let's see if they can stay this way after their match with Ravenclaw in April. |

| Posting War Madness!
By Ava Black February was an exciting month in Penshire. We had another Posting War. This time we were divided into two teams. The First team The Red Roses- consisted of Senior Prefect Samuel Craft, Head Girl Ava Black, Prefect Assistant Araceli Mendoza and students Sapphire Lyze and Lilac Brown. The opposing team The Blue Violets starred Prefects Shalamar Magoo and Sephiroth, Prefect Assistant Bryony Casten and students Yozorrah Torreli and Voldie. The goal was to post their little hearts out! In the end over 5000 posts were made! The Blue Violets did over 2000 post but the Red Roses claimed victory nearly 2700 post! Great job!! Most of the Victory is due to Samuel Crafts fine posting skills. He alone did almost 2000 post pretty much carrying the team. The Losers of the posting war are required to write a Wizard Digest article and an Owl Gazette article great thinking Sam. There was one small twist to Samuels plan. The twist is that the top posters for each team got to swap out of the article writing. So Sam now has to contribute an article to each paper, and Bryony is off the hook! Great times here in Penshire!! |

Hope you all enjoyed your time there! Last we won another Quidditch Game! The Quidditch team played hard and well. Great job Crafty Cranes! |

| Ravenclaw Rap
By Summer In Ravenclaw, we have our house club, who plans events for us to do both as a group and individually. This past month, we were to write articles for our house magazine, the Witch Weekly. Our goal was to publish the issue with the most articles yet! All of us worked hard to try and contribute at least one article, and some of us wrote a lot! We had all decided to publish a Valentine's Day special edition of the Witch Weekly for everyone to enjoy. And in a short period of time, we had put together one of our most successful and packed issues yet! But this won't be the most packed WW issue for very long.... A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped! Great job, Ravens and enjoy the issue, everyone! |

| Slytherin Scoop
Beonca Aims The house has recently seen some new students enter our doors, there is a race to see who PMs them first to welcome and help them settle in. We also have a special welcome thingy, but if I told you, I would have to kill you. As usually the chatting in made crazy, the games are going strong and we are looking forward to the next set of contests as the last ones were a blast! Even if we don't win, we had fun. House unity it strong and we are working on our next issue of the Prophet with Jenii Chang taking a bigger role in its publication. We enjoyed the last Quidditch game between Penshire and Hufflepuff. We are busy working on our slogans, and other Slytherin type things, and again, if I told you, I would have to kill you. LOL |

| Slytherin of the Month
by: The Slytherin House This month, Jenii Chang was chosen as Slytherin of the month. She was recently made Assistant Prefect and has been helping out the house even before that. Although she does her lessons and works on earning points she also leads clubs and helps with the Daily Prophet. Although Jenii switched from Hufflepuff, she says, "I feel more at home here then I ever did there." |
