| Internet Safety and the Wish to Torture Someone
By MoD I received an e-owl by one of the students, telling me about one particular case: One of her friends had recently gotten a myspace and now my source started to worry about it, as she had heard so many bad things that could happen with having such a site. Finally, she asked me to inform all of you about the dangers of joining the fun of having something like a myspace. First of all, I will try to explain what a myspace is, for all of you not being familiar with it. Myspace is a website which offers services like having a blog, hosting your photographs, creating an account and joining groups all for free. At first glance, this looks perfect for everyone of us to get ourselves such a myspace. But, and now lets get to the negatives of this service, when you create an account and a myspace, you need to give away very personal data that should by all means be protected like nothing else. But this site, myspace, is known for lacking in its security measures to ensure the safety of all data about the user, which enables other people receiving all kinds of information about you, which they shouldnt be able to get. The student, who informed me about this particular case, was really upset about his friends careless act and ended up using phrases like I want to kill myspace! However, I dont know if he was only talking about myspace in this particular case, as I know that this student was upset by one certain Professor at our school, whos name you wont find me mentioning here. Furthermore, this student informed me about some other students around here, still possessing a myspace account at the given moment. If you happen to know someone having an account there, I advise you to tell your friend to delete this account at once. It would save your friend a lot of trouble doing so. Besides, for everyone not being aware of this fact, our Headmistress and the staff members created a site especially for this particular case. Therefore would I advice to visit our Hogsnet-site, to be found at the Annex Building right on the Hogwarts Grounds. You will find a lot more information about the dangers of myspace and giving away personal information on the whole world wide web there. However, this site wasnt only created to give information about the threats lurching everywhere, it was rather created to be a place where help is offered when you have any problems concerning the net. So, use this opportunity to go and have a look on the site and if you happen to be one of the million users of myspace: Go ahead and delete your account right now! Its all for your best! See you around. |

| Candy for Cheapskates
By Fiona Chauvet If youre like me you absolutely love candy. Im always buying candy. I buy candy even when I dont need candy. You could call me a candy-holic. Now with Valentines Day coming up, Im going to be buying even more then I usually do. With the constant purchase of sugary sweets on my part, it usually leaves me with an empty pocket. So I thought Id do a little investigating and try to find the best candy prices at Hogwarts. My first stop was Honeydukes in Hogsmeade Village. The prices are decent as is the selection of candies. Youre most likely paying for the Honeydukes name, but if you dont mind paying an extra sickle and are in the area, stop by and pick yourself up a bag of Bertie Botts. The Slytherin Sweets Shop is an excellent place to visit if youre craving something sweet. Not only can you find a great selection of candies, but you can pick yourself up some cookies and food you wouldnt normally come across inwell lets say its unique! Their prices are good and you cant be the array of choices. Leons Quick Candy has some of the best prices Ive seen. The selection may vary, but if you just need something to satisfy your sweet tooth and dont have many sickles in your pocket, swing on by and grab some razzles! Theyre a gum and a candy! Insane! At the moment my candy supply is full and so is my pocket! I hope yours is too and until next time, stay sweet Hogwarts! |
Valentines Day offers New Start
By: Seraphina Rosehill Valentines Day is typically thought of as being a couples holiday. Sweethearts send or give each other gifts to show their love and appreciation for the other. But is it really just for couples? Why not take advantage of this holiday to let a friend know how much you care? Or send a gift to someone that you want to get to know better? For those of us that are single, dont feel left out! Go shopping in the stores or visit the Valentines Day Exchange and find that perfect gift for someone and give it to them. It just might open a door to a new or stronger friendship, or it might earn you a note from that special someone that you want to know better. |

| History of Valentine's Day By Crystal DeMello How did Valentine's Day begin? Doesn't everyone want to know? Well the muggles have a different version for how this special day came about but us wizards know better. Since we have advanced technology and more knowledge about things. Valentine's Day began around 1500 A.D., when a famous muggle writer named Shakespeare wrote a romantic play called Romeo and Juliet. It was all the rage back then and set the stage for the first passing of love notes. Young, youthful people started to get ideas and copied whatever went on in the playthe happy parts at least. Others picked up versions of the style until this became a regular common thing in society. Not soon after wizards and witches adopted their own ways and eventually came up with the lover's day, Valentine's Day. Today we see it being celebrated every year and many memories are created. So this year, make sure to let that special someone know what you feel about them. |

| Interview With Professor Pendragon:
By Cassidy Smith CS = Cassidy Smith |||| Professor Yelva Pendragon= PP [CS:]Many people have seen you lingering around the BB but none know what class or classes you teach. Could you give us some details? [PP]Currently I am working to set up Dragonology which will include Dragon Mythology, Care of Dragons, and History of Dragons. [CS]Can you give a rough time frame on when this class will be up? [PP]Sadly with my duties with the work I do for the Ministry with dragons and now the fact that I have taken up the mantle as the Professor to run the Tri-Wizard Tournament my lessons well be slow to come but I hope to have them up with in a few weeks. As soon as I get a hold of a certain young lady that is currently holding them for me. [CS]If you could choose a class other than Dragonology, Which class would you teach? [PP]Nothing really though I love Potions I know Im no where near as skilled as Professor Snape is, so Ill stick with my Dragons and Dragonology. [CS]If you could be the Head of House for one of the Hogwarts houses which would it be and Why? [PP]Slytherin, of course. Why simple Im an alumni for the house and my heart belongs to it and the students that are sorted into the house and at least stay with the house. [CS]What house were you in during your time as a student at Hogwarts? [PP]Why? Slytherin was my home while I was a student and haunting the halls of Hogwarts as a young girl. Why well simply because I was born a Slytherin and I shall forever be a Slytherin even after my death, when ever that shall be. It would be simpler to ask the Hat why he places us where he does then to ask a Slytherin why they belong in Slytherin. We just do. *sly grin.* |

| Intruders at Hogwarts
By MoD Yes, it is true, we have impostors at our beloved school, and it is my duty to bring this to your attention. Maybe you have already heard of it, maybe not either way: Beware who youre talking to. Everyone could be an intruder trying to recruit you to leave this school to join another. One of my well hidden sources has told me about an intruder in one of the common rooms at our school, who obviously tried to make some of the student of given house join another School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Obviously these people are not very smart at their attempts to make us students join, so it shouldnt be too difficult to reveal their true nature and motives of joining. As my source has asked me to not mention any, I will stick to this and give you my advice right away: If there happens to be someone at your common room behaving odd in any kind of way and asking questions like Dont you want to start another Hogwarts RPG site with me?, go and tell your Prefect, your Head of House or any other staff member right away. This school is a heavenly gift and we dont want its reputation being harmed in any kind of way, right? Our Headmistress is working hard for this school to be the way it is, and we all love being here. So go ahead and defend your house, your school, and your Headmistress by showing these people that we wont ever leave this school, and that they should better go and find themselves a new home. Show some spirit and help us defending these intruders. You know you can! |

| Valentine Traditions
By Kiley Blaire (Credit to: http://www.pictureframes.co.uk/pages/saint_valentine.htm ) Hundreds of years ago in England, many children dressed up as adults on Valentine's Day. They went singing from home to home. One verse they sang was: Good morning to you, valentine; Curl your locks as I do mine--- Two before and three behind. Good morning to you, valentine. In Wales wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes were favourite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, "You unlock my heart!" In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. To wear your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling. In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a young man. If she keeps the gift, it means she will marry him. Some people used to believe that if a woman saw a robin flying overhead on Valentine's Day, it meant she would marry a sailor. If she saw a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy. If she saw a goldfinch, she would marry a millionaire. A love seat is a wide chair. It was first made to seat one woman and her wide dress. Later, the love seat or courting seat had two sections, often in an S-shape. In this way, a couple could sit together -- but not too closely! Think of five or six names of boys or girls you might marry, As you twist the stem of an apple, recite the names until the stem comes off. You will marry the person whose name you were saying when the stem fell off. Pick a dandelion that has gone to seed. Take a deep breath and blow the seeds into the wind. Count the seeds that remain on the stem. That is the number of children you will have. If you cut an apple in half and count how many seeds are inside, you will also know how many children you will have. |

| Signs of Cupid! By Crystal DeMello Where is cupid now you ask? Well, why not take a look inside the House of Slytherin for a start! The current couple is Kiley and Eltanin, better known as Tani. There is a little ''something something'' going on between Zyrah and Viktor. wink.gif Let's wait and see if that buds into something! Then you have Jennifer and her humongous crush on our sweet caretaker Legolas. She seems to have other things planned, swarming around in her mind too. Wonder what that is There seems to be a new love budding between Kitty and Arien. They have been seen ''teasing'' each other as well as holding hands. Last but certainly not least we have Seraphina! And as we all know, she is infatuated with our Head of House, Professor Snape. Sadly, this is all for nowbut wait and see if something more happens! |

| Valentines Slytherin Style
By Beonca Aims First we start off making black colored hearts and stringing them around the common room. The place is also festooned with black and dark green balloons and silver streamers. We change into our dark robes, enter the common room in a sober mood and await our Head of House who then enters with his chain-hung censer smoking with incense. As the Senior Prefect rings the Slytherin ritual bell 13 times, she and the professor walk the circumference of the room once. After this ceremonial entrance, all the Slytherin students place the pre-written in blood, slip of paper with their name on it in the House Cup, which is sitting dead center of the room. The professor recites a secret incantation, the Cup spews green smoke and one at time the students step forward and remove one of the slips of paper. The girls had written theirs on green paper, the boys on silver, so a girl will then remove a silver paper and a boy, a green one. Once all have retrieve one, the Senior Prefect rings the bell once and everyone opens them to see whose name they had drawnand if you are buying any of this then your idea of Slytherin is well.correct. |
