| Valentine's Day
By Hilary Stevens Well as you all know Valentine's Day is fast approaching. So it's that time of year to pull out the romance and boxes of chocolate to give to your loved ones. But unforunatly some of you out there will have no one beside you on February the 14th. So what do you do with yourself? Well here are some ideas which might just cheer you up! The first most obvious one is to pluck the courage to ask that special someone out. However a word of warning. Check that he/she doesn't already have plans with someone else. If you don't and he/she does have plans, you might just end up worse that when you started off... My second piece of advice is get a mate to hang out with! It'll make you feel much better and before you know it, you'll be having a great time! After all it's better than sulking in your dorm all day. Treat yourself! Know those presents you were going to buy for that special someone. Buy them anyway! Then give them to a mate or someone else! And if you really don't feel like sharing just keep them for yourself! After all, waste not, want not!!! Hopefully everyone will have a great Valentine's Day. So good luck to you all in finding your match!! |

| A Native American's Perspective
By Dakota Tallfeather From my first day to now I have never felt judged for my heritage or background. I found this common at this school. Diversity rules! We have students from all over the world and with all kinds of backgrounds and it works. I'm not saying there has been misunderstandings, it would be weird if we didn't, but then those issues work them selves out with communication, something that is important when not 'living' with each other face-to-face. We cannot see a hurt look, so we adjust and use our smilies, or just say, 'what do you mean by that' and the conversations start. They usually end up with becoming even better friends once an understanding is made. I know some who do not use English as their first language, often you couldn't tell, but that always has impressed me. So Hogwarts offers foreign languages in the summer months which have to be a first on any HP site! This allows us to understand the particulars of the different languages we do not speak. I am waiting for a course on American Sign Language, though that would be funny since it would be hard to RP that form of communication, but like all things at PAD's, I am sure one day this too would be accomplished! |
| CAUGHT! Gryffindor: Megan Miller has been caught! Megan is an active house reporter who always tries to encourage students to send in articles to the Owl Gazzette, as well as writing many herself. Besides the OG, Megan is found joining clubs and helping out with contests constantly. She always takes the time to do her part and for that we're grateful to have such a giving member. Hilary Stevens has also been caught! Hilary has been a member for almost two months, but she's shown a huge amount of enthusiasm and house spirit already. Hilary has been a great help to the Quidditch team, and an all around helpful member. We can't wait to see more good things to come from Hilary. Penshire: Penshire caught Sapphire Lyze posting like crazy and working hard for her house this month! She came in first place in the month-long posting war, racking up over 2500 posts in less than a month! She's been seen helping out with the ongoing IHC and lending support to every member of the house! Congratulations Sapphie!! We also caught Taylor Mathis, newly sorted into Penshire, jumping right in and getting involved without hesitation! Taylor has been posting regularly in the games section and is meeting new people in the RPG's as well. He's got the perfect Penshire spirit and fits into our group without a second thought! Way to go Taylor! Ravenclaw: Hagrid Black has been caught! This young lad is full of creative ideas, school and house spirit. Hagrid always had a lot to give, not only to the house of Ravenclaw, but to the school as well. He has been found organizing some fun and interactive events to get Ravenclaw back on track! Keep up the good work, Hagrid! Taylor Wallace has been caught! As Ravenclaw's senior prefect and one of the House Club's presidents, Taylor has dedicated so much time and effort for the better of the house and school. Not to mention that this prefect has also organized the Valentine's Day Gift Exchange. No matter what you do, Taylor, you are simply brilliant! Hufflepuff Cookie Minwaggle has been caught! Cookie earned 1,100 points for the Writing Club double points day. Cookies massive amount of points helped Hufflepuff earn the most points in the double points day. Dakota Tallfeather has been caught! Dakota has been continually writing many articles for the house magazine and helping Hufflepuff earn a lot of points for all of his hard work in writing articles. Slytherin Zyrah Lyam - Besides having an uberly awesome name, this girl has stepped straight in and has been a seemingly expert at RP's. All have seemed to connect with her immediately, and I know she'll be a rather important addition to Slytherin. Draco Malfoy - Here not even a week, and he's started a personal book club for Slytherin! They're also organized and always have a topic at the meetings. No spam here, surprisingly! This boy most definitely has potential, and I know everyone looks forward to the discussions eagerly. |
