About the Artist
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mara didn't know what photography was until second grade, when a fellow classmate's father (who managed a local Ritz Camera location) came in to do a workshop on taking pictures.  Giving her a disposable camera, and free time, she ran about the playground taking portraits of her friends and the natural landscape that encompassed her elementary school.
After that, every vacation she went on, with her mother's 35mm camera in tow, Mara took photos of anything and everything.  Not just to remember the vacation, but to try and make it into art.
At the age of 17, Mara enrolled in a photography class at her high school and immediately fell in love with the process of taking photos, developing, and printing photographs.  Manipulating photographs into an artistic display of how she feels is what she loves most about photography.
Using a Minolta STsi camera along with her father's 1970s Asahi Pentax camera, Mara enjoys taking print photographs, however she has begun going into digital photography with the new age of technology.  Currently, her digital camera is a 5.1 megapixel Konica:Minolta DiMage G500.
Now, at 20, and enrolled at the Michigan State University College of Communications and Arts, Mara plans to major in Journalism with a teaching certificate, specializing in Spanish and is enrolled in photojournalism classes within the College of Journalism.
