| SSR Quotes Project
For each book you read, turn in the following project, along with the book. Incomplete projects will be returned as �not yet ready�. 1. As you read, select passages that you encounter which seem important, provocative, dramatic, surprising, even disturbing. Mark these with a sticky note or write down the page number. 2. When you finish reading the book, copy these passages down, along with the page number. {1 quote for every 50 pages, but can come from throughout the book) a. Under each passage write why you picked that passage. What appealed or repulsed you? b. Then write how that passage fit into the chapter/book as a whole. 3. Write a reflective letter to me or a friend in which you include the following tasks: a. How did you like the book? Why or why not? b. Would you recommend it? c. What was the best part? The worst? d. Who were your favorite/least favorite characters? e. What connections did you make while reading this book to the outside world? f. Include one of your quotes as the �Quote of the Book� to back up one of your points. SSR Reading Requirements Students should read a variety of books throughout the course of the year. I will expect a different genre each time. Once this list has been achieved, students can earn credit for repeat genres. Students can discuss genres not listed with me for approval. Teachers and librarians can help students find books in each genre which may fit individual tastes.
