The people of Caladon follow what humans might call a pagan or naturalist religion. The myth states that the first to of thier people, the First Mothers, sprouted directly from the Everlasting Tree and began the propogation of thier species. The Tree spoke to them and taught them to speak, write, and use tools. The religion revolves around this gigantic tree, which stands almost 1000 feet tall. Its estimated to be more than half a million years old. The people are very naturalists, using thier technology with great care so as not to disrupt the environment. It is organized into a family of priestesses, archpriestesses, and the Crowned Lady of the Tree at the top. The clergy maintain the Temples of the Tree, which are large marble buildings built around a large tree. It is a combination of garden, house of worhsip, monestary, and sexual bathhouse. The priestesses are not allowed to have sex with anyone expect others in thier order to retain purity. To become the Crowned Lady you must be something no other citizen is...a virgin. Festivals are held to celebrate the Mother Tree, the harvest, and the Queens Birthday. |

Concerning Purity- The Crowned Lady comes from a long line of fellow Matrons dating back to the First Dynasty. She must be pure in order to retain her foresight and ability to sense lies and deceit. The family of Matrons have a routine to contoinue the line. When a couple birth, they have only two; the potential Lady and her sister. The pair are split apart after puberty to retain her virginity, and sent to a monestary to train in the tasks of priesthood. Her sister, on the other hand, is the continuation of the line, So she and her partner will birth the next Matron/sister pair. Other priestess family perform much or less the same thing. |
