| 8-24-03 This past night was a WONDERFUL night. If you know me, the sarcasm is understood to be there. If you don't, I just laid it on about as thick as you can. Last night SUCKED! Last night was the perfect example of the downside of being not only security, but Manager on Duty overnight. Sometimes it's pretty much unbearable. Let's see...what is the worst situation that could be brought up when you have the highest authority at the time in a hotel? I would have to say, after careful consideration, that it would be when the General Manager (only he and my boss have higher authority than myself at that time) lets one of his friends into the hotel to drink with him, they get really drunk and then decide that his friend is going to stay at the hotel for free in a room that was already blocked for a wedding couple for their wedding night on a night when we have ONE open room to sell. Yeah... I'm guessing that is about the worst situation I could have been in. A crying bride screaming obscenities at the front desk. Groomsmen trying to be threatening. A drunk groom who didn't really care what was going on. It was a wonderful menagerie of glass retards. By the way, when I tried to call the General Manager (who lives in the hotel) on his room extension, he wouldn't answer. Either he didn't want to answer the phone, or he was passed out because he had been drinking since 3:00 in the afternoon. So, collectively as a hotel we ruined this woman's wedding night. Which is pretty cool when you think of it. About the only worse thing I could have done is stand up and object at her wedding. Or shoot the groom. Which comes later. Somehow, we convinced them to stay at the hotel. Oh yeah...that's how...we gave them a free suite. Not much else you can do at that point when the general manager passes out from drinking and can't fix his own mistakes. But how can I go over his head with a decision? Anyway, it's days like this that lose us our Night Auditors (front desk for the non-hotel oriented). Another is leaving the hotel because of the crappy work conditions. But back to the shooting of the groom. We finally got them to stop screaming at the front desk and the front desk got them to go to their free room. Not twenty minutes later we got a noise complaint from the room next to them. So it figures, now we had to go yell at them to be quiet after screwing up their room. So we did. Maybe fifteen minutes later, oh suprise, we got another noise complaint about their room. This time we had to tell them that if they didn't quiet down, we would tell them to leave the hotel. Which would completely ruin their wedding night, because all the hotels in Buffalo and it's suburbs were sold out. There was nowhere else to go. They would spend their wedding night in their car. So we went to speak to them. The groom came out into the hall to speak to us. We told him that they could be loud in the lobby area, but if they continued to be loud in the room they would have to leave. The groom told us that the rest of the wedding party was leaving. It was at this point that the groom joined the normal group of our guests in stupidity. He told us that after everybody left, the only people that would be left in the one bed room would be himself, his wife, and THE BEST MAN! I'm not 100% sure, but I don't plan on having anyone but my wife in the room on my wedding night. Unless, of course, you are down with a little three way action. Which it seems they were. But I could be wrong. He could just be watching. Until next time. |
