Number of times I've been called Bill:

I was saving this for a rainy day, and since most of the material I have is weak, I'm pulling this one out.

"Can you call me a cab"
     ~A short update

There are many employees at the hotel.  I could probably count on my hands the nuber of employees who are decent workers or even decent people.  Out of those few, there are still some that can hardly even think for themselves.  This is a story about two of them.
I got a call from the front desk.  The front desk had received a call from Rm. 382.  In broken English the front desk was told that there was something wrong with the lights in the room.  Of course, overnight, we don't have maintenance on, so I had to check the room even though there is no way I could fix the lights.  Just to prove that I am amazing, I managed to solve the problem with only one question.  I knocked on the door, said hello to the woman, and asked "Have you tried all of your lights, even the ones in the entrance and your bathroom?"  Then they went to all their lights and tried them all.  All of them worked.  Hmmmmmm...  Ok...
Secondly, the front desk called me a couple of hours after the lightswitch incident to informe me that I needed to pick up a guests' luggage at the airport.  After not getting proper info from the guest the first time, the front desk once again came through...and told me that the airport had called and called only moments before.  When I got to the airport mere minutes later, everything was shut down and all the luggage counters were locked up.  When I got back and questoned the front desk again, it turned out that the guest had called and the desk did not know when the airport had called the guest.  It was obvious that it was BEFORE closing time.  WHen I talked to the front desk later...I was tole that she had told the gentleman that he couldn't get his bags because the airport was closed down.  The guest told her that it was ok, because he was renting a car in the morning and could get his bags on his own.  So another unnecessary waste of time.  And this time I even got to leave the hotel, so if there was an emergency, nobody would have been there to respond.
At about 4:10 am the end-all of uselessness happened.  A banquet captain needed a cab home, because he finished work late.  So this houseman went to the front desk to have her call him a cab.  Instead of giving him a phone book and pointing him to a phone or looking up hte number for him, she tells him that she can't get the number because she doesn't have a phone book (which she did) and that her computers were down for the audit (which they were).  She sent him all the way to the other end of the hotel and told him that I would call him a cab (which I wouldn't).  He came down to the security office and told me to call him a cab.  I set a phone book in front of him and giggled inwardly at the pissed and confused look on his face.  I told him to call his own cab, like a reasonable person.  He was slightly upset that someone wouldn't do his work for him.  He then called his own cab and went to the front entrance to wait.  While he was waiting the bellman arrived.  The bellman offered to take him home.  Not only did he tell the front desk to call and cancel his cab, but when she said she couldn't because her computers were still down, but then they called me to cancel his cab.  Please, please God... Think about this... The phone was picked up , dialed , waited on and then spoken into.  All to get me to pick up, dial, wait on, and then speak into a phone.  All he had to do was dial or have her dial the number  he had just dialed less than five minutes before in my office!  "But wait!" you say... He probably didn't remember the number.  The number, you say?  It was 888-9999.
Needless to say, I made him call his own damn cab and cancel it.  Seriously, who the hell needs someone to do every little thing for them.  I pretty much hate it when I need help with anything.  It means I can't do something by myself.  I expect to be able to solve any problem I come upon without help.  It is disgusting to see a grown man expect others to do everything short of spooning him breakfast in bed.  And unfortunately, I see that every day here.

  Until next time.
