| OverflO is a four piece rock band with guitar, bass, drums and turntables. Our music is a blend of many styles. I don't know what you'd call the style of our band, but it's cool, it's fun, and you can still usually hear after the show. | ||||||||||||||||||

| A Selected History of OverflO OverflO formed in 1998 with brothers Bill and Carl Petzold, as well as founding member T.J. DeKett. The band evolved slowly as Bill and Carl lived on opposite sides of the state, Bill attending school at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and Carl attending Vassar High School in Vassar, MI, a small town about 1/2 hour away from Saginaw. The lengthy drive prohibited much meaningful collaboration, but both brothers were hard at work refining the musical skills that they had been developing since the age of 8. Carl wrote and performed his first original tunes with a few groups while in high school, as well as playing many beer soaked solo performances at bonfires and parties. Meanwhile in Kalamazoo, Bill had fallen in with a group of musical friends who were also attending WMU who helped him learn more about music and further develop as a guitarist and songwriter. In 1997 Bill joined seminal psychedelic group The Electric Koolade with virtuoso lead guitarist Eric Kerney, and the two developed a strong musical bond. The Koolade performed until 1999, at which point Bill left the group to work with other Kalamazoo area bands, including The Fashion with singer Ken Magerman and incendiary drummer Maus, and later rockabilly group The Stiffs with Ex-Fashion member Nick Benore. Around 1998, Bill met Ken Swift who would later be known as the Infamous D.J. Tourette's. Bill and Ken began collaborating on songs and performing their own weird blend of rock, funk and hip hop, as well as backing up recording artists who were on indie hip hop label Versatile Records. The two developed an intuitive, effortless on-stage interplay. Before long, Ken was an integral part of OverflO with his great vocal performances and ever-evolving DJ style. In early 2004, Eric Kerney joined OverflO and cemented a line-up of talented multi-instrumentalists. After several line-up changes and tired of looking for a steady drummer that could complement the group's eclectic styles, Carl Petzold moved from bass guitar to drums, a move that made the band ROCK. The group lives and works in Kalamazoo. |
