Guitar FAQ TS 808
mod
This is a very easy mod which only require a capacitor, a couple
resistors and the famed RC4558p chip that was used in the original TS
808s. This chip is a very decent chip and you can get them for really
cheap from smallbear (http://www.smallbearelec.com). The chip socket
also allows you to experiment with other chips such as the stock
JRC4558D, RC4558P (this is the one we will be using for now), LM833,
TLC2202, TLC2272, OP275 or a LT1214 (source: http://www.beavisaudio.com/Projects/ScreamerLab/index.htm)
so you have a fair ammount of versitility, I havn't tried them all
yet, but I intend to at some point.
Guitar FAQ
Mod:
You will need:
- 100 Ohm Resistor x 1(brown-black-brown-gold)
- 10K Ohm Resistor x 1 (brown-black-orange-gold)
- 10uF (or mF it is the same thing) x1
- Optional (we will be using them in Kevin's mods):
- 8-pin Chip socket x 1
- RC4558p Texas instruments chip
- LED if you want to put a new one in, you will need to change
R30
to a 1.2k or higher if you are using a 3mm LED
Replacing
Components
- Remove R17 > replace with 10k resistor
(brown-black-orange-gold)
- Remove R16 > replace with 100 Ohm resistor
(brown-black-brown-gold)
- Remove capacitor C6
- Remove capacitor C10 > replace with 10uF capacitor
- Remove D6 and put wire accross - you can use what you clipped
from the other components
Optional:
- Desolder the existing chip and replace with the chip
socket
- Insert chip into socket, make sure you wear surgical gloves or
touch something metal to avoid static damage to the
chip. Make sure you orient it correctly (see below)
