Intro[Top]
Ever since I got my ds-1 I hated it. It quite frankly, sounded
like crap. I became interested in the properties of circuit
bending the DS-1 through guitar geek but found that many of them had
broken links to sound samples and pictures that didn't work. I
eventually found a post from Indyguitarist (website can be found
here: http://www.indyguitarist.com/)
with a picture of how to wire the bends permanently. This is a great
first project as it is easy to do and simple to reverse.
Bends[Top]
There are about four different bends, but five are listed. This is
because A seems to be exactly the same as E, but it has been listed
as two different mods before so there may be a difference. The first
thing you need to do is solder a wire to the 'base position'. This
wire is where all the variations are soldered to (see reference
diagram.)

Putting a mod on a
switch[Top]
You will need an SPDT (I think an SPST may work also) to wire this
up.

Simply wire the two wires that would usually connect to two matching
terminals and leave one terminal open and there you go!
Sound clips[Top]
Sound clips of the mods can be found here, but I suggest trying
them all yourself to find which works best with your setup. I
personally like variation D which is installed on my DS-1 at the
moment.

Variation C - Couldn't record a clip, it has a cool fading effect,
but didn't hold the notes long enough to make a good recording with
my setup

Conclusion[Top]
These mods are a lot of fun to play with, but for my kind of
music they have limited use. Another problem they have is that when
the distortion pot is all the way up and the mod is engaged, it tends
to void the bypass somewhat and lets the signal leak through. In a
future project, I will be making a bypass box loop so you could use
that to get around this problem. I think these mods are best used for
feedback at the end of a set where you can get down to the pedal and
move the dist knob to give a really cool effect.
